We didn’t get a chance to formally review Rapsody‘s summer mixtape She Got Game, but trust us when we say it’s a solid tape. Bringing the same formula of nonchalance, earnestness and wit that characterized that mixtape, on “Mass Hysteria” she warns of mass panic in response to her ability.

Notice that we didn’t say “lyrical ability.” Rapsody is more than just a lyricist; she pays a lot of attention to mood of a track, attentively dialing back or amplifying her delivery in response to the nuances of the instrumental. That’s a skill that a lot of rappers lack. Listen below.

Rapsody is back (not to say she ever left) and her latest song is “Generation.” Rapping over some melancholic production courtesy of  her mentor 9th Wonder,  the North Carolina native joins forces with Mac Miller and Jared Evans to reflect on her generation’s plights and responsibilities. “Generation” is the second single off of Rapsody’s upcoming album She Got Game. In preparation for her upcoming EP hosted by DJ Drama, Rapsody dropped She Got Game‘s first single: “Everlasting.” The North Carolina MC comes correct as always but someone needs to turn the production by Khrysis up. The mellow boom-bap takes a back seat to thoughtful lines like “the idea of a genre doing more, bridging the continent / in concert, whether ign’ant shit or consciousness, they all feeling our confidence.” Listen below.
