News out of the wrestling world is that Jeff Jarrett has stepped down as Global Force Wrestling’s Chief Creative Officer. A release statement indicates that Jarrett is taking an “indefinite leave of absence” because he needed to take care of ‘personal issues.’

Jeff Jarrett Names His Top 5 Wrestlers To Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson On Scoop B Radio

As per Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso the promotion’s owners may be looking to sell and he claims that GFW is “haemorrhaging funds,” with its parent company, Anthem looking to leave the wrestling business.

Nevertheless, Jarrett is a legend in wrestling as both a promoter and a wrestler. Jarrett had four reigns as WCW World Heavyweight Champion and six as WWE Intercontinental Champion.

In a recent interview, I sat down with the student of the wrestling game and Jarrett shared with me some of his favorites in wrestling. “Fabulous Jackie Fargo is one of the guys I was raised on,” Jeff Jarrett told me on Scoop B Radio. “He was strutting long before Flair was and certainly myself. He was somebody who sold out The Garden many times. I’m going way back.”

Added Jarrett:

“Jerry The King Lawler is a guy that in his hey day… his believability, his authenticity, his realism… he taught me so much,” said Jarrett.

The Heartbreak Kid is on Jeff Jarrett’s list too:

“Shawn Michaels is a guy that I got to have many matches with,” Jeff Jarrett told Scoop B Radio. “But when you look on his body of work over the years, you have to put him if not at the very top, certainly up there at the top.

Kurt Angle also makes the cut:

“You got to go with a guy who I had the fortunate… or unfortunate, because he beat the hell out of me, Kurt Angle,” Jeff Jarrett said. “Olympic gold medalist and Kurt came on to the scene and really…a lot of amateur wrestlers in our business don’t quite get how to make that transition and I believe yes, Kurt won the worlds and he won the gold and he did almost everything you could possibly do as an amateur wrestler…the professional wrestler he became just off the charts good.”

The Dead Man also makes the cut:

“I knew this guy when he broke in down in Texas,” said Jeff Jarrett. “He worked in Tennessee and then he went to WCW. When you take a step back and really look at the big man in this business. You almost have to say Undertaker. Andre the Giant, great big man, Great Giant Stud, but when you look at Taker’s…the dude was main eventing Wrestlemanias in the 80s. Mark [Calloway] I don’t think is a big man. He has no peers.”

Can’t lie, Razor Ramon was one of my favorite wrestlers during my childhood.

His gold chain, his Titantron entrance music, his finishing move; the Razor’s Edge piledriver and Ramon’s ability to connect with fans were all legendary.

Aside from his charismatic role in the ring, his in-ring skills were also legendary. His ladder match with Shawn Michaels was legendary as were his feuds with Bam Bam Bigelow, ‘The Model’ Rick Martel, Gold Dust, 1-2-3-Kid, Diesel and Jeff Jarrett.

Speaking of Jeff Jarrett, “Double J” defeated Razor Ramon for the WWF Intercontinental Championship in the opening match of the WWF Royal Rumble in 1995.

Jarrett had nothing but high praise for his peers during that time. “I got to give credit to that nucleus which was Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Diesel, Yokozuna and Razor Ramon was a big, big part of that,” Jeff Jarrett told me on Scoop B Radio.

Currently the owner of Global Force Wrestling, Jarrett’s career is admirable not just as a wrestler but also as an entrepreneur as well. He’s promoted, owned and was a wrestler.

In wrestling, Jarrett has done what a guy like Kevin Garnett or LeBron James has done; understood and executed at multiple positions. Fitting, because Jarrett played college basketball.

But I digress!

On Razor Ramon Jeff Jarrett said:

“You know later when he went to WCW with Scott Hall that was still Razor he was still Razor and it goes without saying his athletic ability, his mind for the business and all of that. But he knew how to connect. He connected with you as a young man obviously and he connected with literally millions around the world. It was a cool time and we had about a we call it in the business being married to one another for about 12 months.”

Former WWE Superstar, Chyna (Joanie Laurer) was found dead in her Redondo Beach, California home today. She was 45 years old. Chyna had a historic wrestling career, paving the way for her successors. Without Chyna we wouldn’t have a Beth Phoenix, Natalya Neidhart or a strong WWE Diva’s Division. Chyna was a pioneer for women in the sports-entertainment industry. A powerhouse in both the men’s and Diva’s divisions, Chyna was named “The Ninth Wonder of the World” (Andre the Giant, dubbed the eighth). She was the first woman to enter the Royal Rumble Match and the first and only woman to win the Intercontinental Championship.

Chyna was also a founding member of D-Generation X (DX), one of the greatest factions in WWE history. DX was the face of the WWE Attitude Era. Original members included Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Rick Rude. The group later expanded to include X-Pac, Billy Gunn and Road Dogg. Chyna initially started out as the groups bodyguard, helping Triple H win matches by executing her signature move; a low-blow to the groin. Chyna would hit the peak of her wrestling career in 1999.

In January 1999, Chyna would become the first woman to qualify for the Royal Rumble Match; entering 13th in the match only to be eliminated by a clothesline from The Texas Rattle Snake, Stone Cold Steve Austin.

In June of that year she also became the first woman to qualify for The King of The Ring tournament. According to Daily Motion, she lost in the quarter final round to Road Dogg, who was wearing a metal cup during the match, preventing him from succumbing to her signature move. In October ’99, Chyna would beat, Jeff Jarret at No Mercy to become the first and only woman to win the Intercontinental Championship. She would hold this title until December after losing it to Chris Jericho. However, in January 2000, Chyna and Chris Jericho would become co-champions of the title after a double-pin was declared during their title match on Smackdown. According to wwe.com, Twenty days later at the Royal Rumble, Chyna would be defeated by Jericho in a triple threat match. As per wwe.com, Chyna would then go on to win Women’s Championship from Ivory at Wrestlemania 17, holding onto the title until late 2001. She vacated the title shortly before her exit from the WWE.

Chyna’s wrestling career continued after her exit from the WWE. According to Pro Wrestling Wikia, she wrestled for a short period of time with New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2002 and had a short stint with Total Non-Stop Action Wrestling (TNA) in 2011. Chyna also appeared in Playboy, starred in adult films and television shows like Fear Factor, The Surreal Life and a music video for Sevendust.

Chyna touched the lives of hundreds WWE Superstars and fans. A revolutionary woman in the wrestling industry is gone but never forgotten. Our hearts go out to Joanie and her family during this difficult time. May she rest in peace.
