The dilemma between the brothers Salvatore continued in Friday’s (January 27th) episode. To quickly recap… Episode 9 of The Vampire Diaries left us with the following:

Damon can push Sybil out of his mind

Matt’s family is the only family who can ring the bell

Caroline broke off her engagement with Stefan even after he gave her the striker

Sybil gave Damon his memories and humanity back

Bonnie wants to give Enzo the cure

Episode 10 of The Vampire Diaries picked back up on the Salvatore brother’s journey to hell (and hopefully back). The episode kicks off with Damon in a comatose state. The elder Salvatore believes he is physically in hell, forcing Bonnie and Caroline to team up with Sybil in order to get inside Damon’s subconscious.

Once inside Damon’s mind Bonnie and Caroline are greeted by many familiar faces including: Henry (Damon’s civil war buddy that he killed), Vicki Donovan (Matt’s sister who Damon also killed) and Sherriff Forbes (Damon’s best friend whom he DID NOT kill). Damon is hiding within his own mind and reliving his mistakes.

Back in Mystic Falls, Stefan continues his murderous spree and kills Violet not even one day after he turned her into a vampire, while Matt and his dad weld the bell together.

Inside Damon’s mind Caroline encounters her mother who then takes her hostage and tortures her for being a vampire. Caroline only gets her mother to stop torturing her when she admits to Sherriff Forbes that she has forgiven Damon for all that he has done because he was there for her when she died. He was the only one who truly understood what it was like to lose her. Unfortunately that wasn’t enough to wake him up.

This left the job to Bonnie who visited her Grams for some help. Bonnie is unsuccessful in finding Damon but runs into Tyler Lockwood. She does however figure out that Damon needs Stefan in order to wake up.

In the tower in the Mystic Falls Town Center Seline tells Matt that he must ring the bell 12 times in order to kill Sybil. Once done a hell fire will unleash and wipe out everything in its path, including the town of Mystic Falls and it inhabitants. This will also allow Cade to come to Earth. Stefan also learns of this plot and compels Matt to ring the bell unless he can forgive Damon for killing Vicki. This forces Matt and his dad to get into a fist fight in order to stop him from ringing the bell. When that doesn’t work Matt tells his dad to kill him in order to save the town.

Stefan then enters Damon’s subconscious and the elder Salvatore finally emerges. Turns out Damon wanted to tell Stefan that he forgives him for turning him into a vampire centuries ago and that he will stop blaming him for all his mistakes. This only enrages Stefan and makes him tell Damon about the town’s impending doom.

This is enough to wake Damon up. Once he emerges Damon kills Stefan and comes to Matt’s rescue before Matt’s dad is forced to kill his own son. After Matt wakes up from a concussion after Damon smashed his head into the bell, Damon apologizes to Matt for killing his sister Vicki. Matt isn’t there yet but he says if Damon keeps heading down this path he may eventually get there. He also let’s Damon know he is going to be the town Sherriff again.

Damon also visits Bonnie and finally let’s her know what he wrote in his letter. In one of the most beautiful scenes of the night, he promises Bonnie that he will never leave her again.

As Damon begins his own journey to redemption, Caroline forces Stefan down his by tying him up in the basement. She is determined to get his humanity back even if it takes Damon and not her, to do it.

Back at a diner, Sybil and Seline try to make amends but fail to do so. As they begin to bicker Cade emerges and kills them by burning them alive. Apparently 11 strikes allows him to surface on Earth. Mystic Falls is in for some hellish trouble.

Next Week:

Cade tells Damon to kill 100 evil strangers or kill Caroline aka the love of Stefan’s life

Caroline may become a martyr

The mid-season finale of The Vampire Diaries took us all the way back to Stefan’s very first Ripper phase. The year was 1917 and it was Christmas Eve. Stefan murdered an entire village that night and yet he doesn’t remember it. Later on in the episode we find out why.

Stefan wanting his last day as a free man to be ever-so-perfect, begins prepping an extravagant Christmas Eve dinner. On the guest list: Ric and The Twins, Stefan, Caroline, Matt, Peter (Matt’s Dad) and the uninvited duo of Sybil and Damon (who is not dead thanks to his deal with Cade). And boy are they all in for a treat.

But before the fun can begin, Caroline calls Bonnie to warn her and Enzo not to come to the dinner. Instead she sends them out to find the pitchfork.

Damon pulls his brother aside promising to tell him why he is there is he comes and gathers the old Salvatore ornaments with him. Big mistake! Damon stabs Stefan with one of those ornaments and sends Stefan down to have some quality time with Cade. Cade then shows Stefan why he is perfect to serve him.

Back in 1917 Cade saw what Stefan did and decided right then and there that Stefan was his. Seline was also with Cade and when she breached Stefan’s mind she saw that he showed remorse and it meant something to her. She spared his life because she only saw anguish and not evil within Stefan. Seline then wiped the memory of the 1917 massacre from Stefan’s mind in hopes to give him a chance at a good life. Stefan intrigues Cade because he was able to take his best servant and turn her against him. After Seline saw the good in Stefan she no longer wanted to make the decision as to who gets sacrificed to Cade. She also picked up writing down her victims’ names from Stefan.

Bonnie and Enzo arrive at the house where they think Sybil is staying and find Seline instead. She has the pitchfork and is willing to give it to them if she can talk to Ric. Seline tells Ric she needs to remove her psychic imprint from the girls but he wants no part of it. However, a deal is a deal and Seline gives Enzo and Bonnie the pitchfork.

Back at the Salvatore mansion Ric returns to the table just in time to learn why Damon is there. He is planning to kill one of them and give their soul to Cade. Only the worst of them though. Damon is able to get Peter (Matt’s Dad) to admit why he left Matt, his sister and mother behind. He was ashamed and didn’t want to be a nobody in the town of Mystic Falls. Damon found his champion and makes a move to kill him but Sybil needs something from him first. Luckily for Peter, Bonnie and Enzo arrive with the pitchfork in time to save him.

In purgatory, Cade tells Stefan that he ruined Elena’s life when he met her. He tells Stefan that never meeting Elena was the only way to save but instead he selfishly took her down a dark path. That is why he wants Stefan to serve him. Cade wants Stefan to take good people and make them wicked. So Stefan strikes another deal with Cade. He will become The Ripper for one year and get the job done in half the time in exchange for his and Damon’s freedom after all is said and done. Cade agrees to the deal but thinks they won’t want to leave.

Speaking of Elena. Caroline gave Damon a gift earlier in the episode. Sybil opens the gift and it is Elena’s necklace. As Damon puts it around Sybil’s neck he begins to remember Elena. Realizing what Sybil has done to him, he rips out her heart and places it on the bench next to her.

Stefan then comes back to life and kisses Caroline under the mistletoe. He then tells her about the deal he made with Cade.

Ric finally came to his senses at the close of the hour and called Seline. She removes her psychic imprint and memory from the twin’s minds and is on her way. She is trying to redeem herself and repent for her sins. Ric and the girls then leave town just as Stefan does the same.

Damon scoops up Stefan in his car and as they cross the town lines Stefan turns off his humanity switch.

Friday’s (December 2nd) episode of The Vampire Diaries “Detoured on Some Random Backwoods Path to Hell”, brought Cade to Earth in some crappy backwoods motel. The episode, directed by Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore), not only tested the relationship between Stefan and Damon but those of Ric and Caroline, Caroline and Stefan and Ric and Damon as well.

In the last episode, Seline took the twins and headed off to summon Cade. In Friday’s episode Ric was finally able to get a hold of her. After getting nowhere with her, a violent threat seemed to be his only option. However, threating to kill Seline after he got his kids back really didn’t faze her. She does work for Satan after all. Unfortunately for Seline, Ric and Caroline weren’t the only ones hot on her trail.

Matt, Stefan, Bonnie and Enzo were all working together to find the twins and bring them home. Stefan was left behind with the ring he gave Caroline as Caroline did not want him to interfere if she was forced to kill Damon in order to save her kids. Caroline didn’t want any distractions that could cause her to lose the twins again or worse, get them killed.

Before anyone else can find the kidnapping Seline, Damon and Sybil find her and the twins in a dinner out in the middle of nowhere. It is then that we learn Seline’s plans for the twins; she wants to give them to Cade in exchange for her and Sybil’s freedom. Seline sees this as a way of atoning for her sin of making Cade bring her sister back to life and really giving her no choice but to serve him. Either she lives and is an immortal slave or she dies. Anyone would choose to live under those circumstances. No one ever really wants to die.

Well maybe except Enzo who is actually dying from the inside out via Sybil’s subconscious mind torture. Hoping to ease his pain, Bonnie asks Stefan to go into Enzo’s subconscious (something he has never done before). Inside Enzo’s mind Sybil is gutting him for breaking her hold yet again and turning back on his humanity. However, all was not lost. Thanks to Enzo, Stefan was able to see that Sybil was at a diner with Seline, The Twins and Damon. Stefan immediately calls Ric and tells him what he found. Unfortunately he can’t give him the exact location so Ric tells Stefan to go back into Enzo’s mind no matter the cost. He doesn’t care if it kills Enzo. He needs to find his kids and get them away from Seline.

Ric and Caroline had no luck in the beginning of this episode. When they finally get the location and arrive at the diner they discover that Seline, The Twins, Damon and Sybil have escaped.

As their escape vehicle barrels down the road, Damon decides that there is no better time to pick Seline’s brain. We then learn exactly what it takes to serve Cade. One must be supernatural and serve him of their own free will. Damon then criticizes Seline for taking the 4 year old twins. However, she believes she can convince them to serve Cade and save herself from rotting in hell. Apparently hell isn’t a one way ticket if you have the right exchange.

Seline’s escape is cut short when they run into a traffic stop. The officer is stopping all vehicles on the road looking for the twins. Seline uses her siren powers to trick the cop but one of the twins (Josie or Lizzie) isn’t having it. She will not be forced to sleep and she attacks Sybil raising the cop’s suspicion. This forces Sybil to attack and kill the cop to evade the groups’ capture.

A little while later the group arrives at a sketchy motel. Damon, fed up with how slow things are progressing, decides to take charge and gathers everything they need to summon Cade; a body of water and a couple human bodies. Seline is angered by this as she claims the twins won’t be ready for another decade or so. Unbeknownst to her Damon has a plan. He wants to strike a deal with Cade and asks Sybil for her help in doing so.

Stefan goes back into a now unconscious Enzo’s mind hoping to figure out where Seline went. This time Sybil is trying to kill Enzo. Stefan is forced to participate in this subconscious world and grabs Sybil by the throat. She tells him that Damon and she have an offer he can’t refuse but if he wants that offer and her to stop hurting Enzo, he has to come alone to the motel.

The only way Stefan could go to the motel alone was if he gave Ric and Caroline the wrong address. When the two arrive at the incorrect hotel it stirs up some crazy emotions from Ric. He tells Caroline that he is taking the girls away from her and everyone else. Danger and darkness follow her and he doesn’t want to subject his (and Jo’s) kids to that.

Stefan arrives at the right motel and is greeted by a trap setup by Sybil; a test to make sure he is serious about taking the deal. Sybil sirened all the motel members to attack him hoping to force him into killing one of them and make him dark. She wants to make sure Stefan has blood on his hands. That’s how Cade likes them best.

Cade arrives and Stefan is forced to kill one of the motel guests in order to save his life. As Damon watches his brother kill the man with a broken baseball bat, he tells Stefan about his deal and how he can get the twins back.

Back at the pool where Cade emerged Seline is trying to sell the idea of the twins to him. He is intrigued but gets a better deal when Sybil offers the immortal Salvatore brothers instead; in order to save the twins Stefan agreed to join Damon in serving Cade. The twins are then reunited with Caroline and Ric. Shortly after the reunion Ric apologizes to Caroline for what he said. Caroline tells him that he was right but to never throw the fact that she isn’t the twins’ biological mother in her face ever again. She then tells Ric to take the twins away from her and Mystic Falls until this is all over. That is the only way they can protect them.

Back at the Salvatore mansion Caroline gives Stefan an apology of her own. She places his ring back on her finger and learns exactly what he had to sacrifice in order to save her kids. Damon finally gave Stefan what he promised back in season one; an eternity of misery. However, Stefan struck a deal with Cade. He gets to spend his last remaining 24 hours of freedom with Caroline. Will they get married in that 24 hour period or is this the end of Steroline?

Speaking of keeping promises, Sybil finally got her revenge on Seline. Turns out the deal Sybil made only saved herself from hell not Seline. Seline will still have to suffer in hell and atone for her sins while Sybil stays out of hell, immortal and with all her powers. She isn’t finished with the game she is playing yet. Just what does this siren have in store?

At the end of the hour Matt finally decided it was time to fight back. He and Ric find Damon, shoot him and rough him up a bit before killing him. As Ric stabs Damon with a stake he says this is for Tyler.

Next Week:

A holiday dinner for the ages

Damon is alive (how?) and Stefan is dead!

This week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries centered on the funeral of what was the last remaining Lockwood. Tyler’s fate was sealed when he crossed Damon’s path on his way back to his home, Mystic Falls. “Coming Home Was A Mistake” finally revealed why Tyler came back to the home he left behind months ago.

As everyone is reeling from the news that Damon murdered Tyler, Bonnie has Enzo captive in the cabin they lived in. She is trying to get him to turn his humanity switch back on. While in her custody, Enzo tries to escape but is unable to do so as Bonnie has set up a powerful barrier spell. She used the flame of imprisonment to lock Enzo inside the cabin. Only Bonnie can come and go as she pleases as she is the one who lit the flame. She is also the only one who can put it out and won’t do so until Enzo turns back on his switch.

Back at the armory Ric finally realized that Georgie has gone missing. He asks Sybil if she knows where she is and doesn’t get anything from her. He then has his intern do research on her whereabouts while he attends Tyler’s funeral.

At Tyler’s funeral Stefan, Ric, Caroline and Matt are all greeted by Damon who has dug graves for everyone promising to bury them all if they don’t back off. Not taking his threats seriously, Stefan tries to talk him down. This only infuriates him even more. He takes out his anger on Matt and force feeds him some of his blood, threating to kill him and turn him if anyone takes a step closer. The group finally gets the message and Damon releases Matt then parts ways.

Out of ideas Bonnie turns to Caroline for help with Enzo. Caroline tells Bonnie that she was able to flip on her switch by dealing with her biggest fear head on.

Stefan comes up with a plan of his own and tells Caroline and Ric that they have to put Damon down in order to save him from himself. This is only a temporary fix until they can figure out how to break Damon from Sybil’s spell.

Speaking of Damon and Sybil…. Damon pays a visit to our resident siren. Turns out he felt something when he killed Tyler which means he isn’t fully under Sybil’s control. There is still hope! However, that doesn’t mean Sybil will stop trying to rope him in. She tries to play on Damon’s emotions and asks him how Elena would feel about this in hopes to erase his emotional past. When that doesn’t work she threatens him with Cade. Sybil then tells Damon to go find his brother and see if he still wants to feel any human emotion after seeing the look on his face. She knows that patching things up with Stefan means Damon will have to feel loads of pain. Pain from killing Tyler and hurting his friends, pain from the disappointment he knows Elena would feel because of what he has done and much, much more.

Also trying to patch things up were Matt and his Dad. They were beginning to box up Tyler’s things when Matt lays into his Dad about the struggles he dealt with growing up; the time his Dad missed after he left home. A box was then delivered to Tyler’s home for Matt. A guy from the armory dropped it off and enclosed was a letter from Tyler asking for Matt to help him find someone. That someone being Seline. Turns out Tyler was helping Virginia St. John find the sirens and he wants Matt to finish the job. Inside the box were pictures of Seline, the second siren everyone is looking for.

Seline being her ever-so-helpful/deceitful self takes the twins to the carnival in town and sirens her way to winning the girls a gold fish. She makes sure it is a dead one so that they can “bury” it at home. Little do they know that they will be “burying” Georgie as well. Seline takes the twins to a warehouse and begins to tell them the story of Cade. She then has the twins call to Cade and set the gold fish and Georgie’s body on fire using some of Seline’s magic.

Speaking of fires… Bonnie uses gasoline to light the cabin on fire. She is using Enzo’s fear of abandonment against him. She refuses to leave the blazing home until he turns his switch back on. Even if that means she dies in the process. Bonnie passes out from smoke inhalation and possibly carbon monoxide poisoning. This is enough for Enzo to turn his switch back on and toss Bonnie outside into the fresh air. When she comes to Enzo is still burning in the cabin. Not willing to lose him again she dashes inside and puts out the flame of imprisonment with her hand. Enzo scoops her up and they escape before the home comes down. Benzo forever!

The Salvatore brother relationship may not last as long as Bonnie and Enzo, especially after Stefan was able to grab Stefan at the carnival. Well Caroline actually shot him with vervain darts. Same difference. They are going to be husband and wife soon enough and they can share the victory, however short-lived it is.

Unfortunately for Stefan and the rest of the gang, Sybil was able to break free from her chamber and leave the armory with the pitchfork. She then heads to Damon and breaks him free from his coffin and chains. He is completely hers now.

This all happens while they have a memorial service for Tyler. This time Enzo and Bonnie join Stefan, Caroline, Matt and Ric. Stefan then turns on the carnival rides on in order to show the group that they need to remember to live. We then hear Ric writing a diary entry to Elena.

Matt and Caroline also have a cute moment together. He asks how the girls are and she shows him pictures. One of the pictures is of the twins with their nanny Seline. Matt tells Caroline about Seline being the second siren and tells her and Ric to rush home. Unfortunately the twins are not there when they arrive. Seline has taken them.

Misery sure does love company and this week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries was no exception. An eternity of misery was what Damon promised Stefan in the pilot episode of the series. Over the seasons Damon turned over a new leaf but it seems he has finally succumb to his dark nature this season.

Continuing to do Sybil’s bidding, Damon heads to Texas for Sybil’s next victim. He douses a mechanic at a garage named Lou in gasoline and makes him conduct electricity and set himself on fire after he does not disclose Peter Maxwell’s (Damon’s true target) location. Turns out Damon is looking for a Maxwell family heirloom. Peter returns after his co-worker has charred and Damon demands Peter turn over the heirloom. He tries to compel him but much to his surprise good ‘ole Pete has been unknowingly vervained via a watch given to him by his son.

More surprises unravel for Damon as he learns Matt is Peter’s son. That’s why Pete looked so familiar. Anyway, angered by Peter’s inability to find the heirloom Damon stabs him. Luckily Matt comes to his father’s rescue and knocks Damon out. He then tells Dear Old Dad to drink Damon’s blood in order to heal his wound. Matt then ties up Damon and tortures him to get him to talk. We then learn Damon only injured Tyler and hasn’t killed him yet. He is bleeding in a park and go off of I-20. Matt leaves Damon behind goes off to save Tyler with his father.

Matt tells his father the truth about everything, supernatural creatures and all, on their ride to find Tyler. Unfortunately they are too late; Matt discovers a dead Tyler. He breaks down and his father consoles him.

Back at the garage, Damon forces a tool rack on himself in order to break free of his restraints. He finds the heirloom he was looking for and heads back to Sybil who has been keeping Alaric and Stefan busy all episode.

In this episode we learn the misery Sybil suffered at the hands of her family, both chosen and blood. Sybil tells Alaric and Stefan the story of Arcadius (Cade), the first psychic. He was stoned and burned at the stake because of the fear of other villagers. Cade got his final revenge on the villagers in death. He created hell with a psychic blast so powerful that it created its own world. Sybil then dives into her back story. She was exiled from her Mediterranean village because of her psychic abilities. A girl from the island becomes her sister as they both share the same psychic abilities. The two would lure sailors to their death and take their food and other previsions as they would wash up on shore. Sybil later learned that there were no previsions just sailors.

Turns out Sybil’s sister is still living and is very, very close by. She has been for a while now. Unfortunately before Stefan or Alaric can get an answer they are attacked by Georgie. Georgie vervains Stefan and traps Alaric in the tunnel system. Ric has to make himself blind and stabs his ear drums to make himself deaf in order to escape the tunnels. He ultimately escapes and comes out in the town square.

The same place where Georgie meets her end at the hands of Sybil’s sister aka Seline!!!!!!! Georgie was forced to attack both Stefan and Ric because Seline wanted her to rescue Sybil. Unfortunately Sybil wants nothing to do with her sister. Seline disappointed in Georgie’s persuasion skills as well as her sister, kills Georgie for failing at her mission. Moments later Georgie wakes up in hell and watches as Seline devours her body. She is then whisked away in the same fashion as Katherine was.

In his vervained state, Stefan is given even more insight as to who Sybil is and why she became who she became. She enters his mind with her memories. We learn Seline forced this life on her just as Stefan forced Damon into the vampire lifestyle.

She then goes on to show Stefan how she tried to kill herself but Arcadius came to her rescue. Seline made a deal with Cade; immortality, beauty and youth in exchange for serving their new master. Sybil tells Stefan there is no escape. The stain of his sins will always remain on his soul no matter how much he atones. This is why Damon chose to serve Cade for all eternity rather than suffer. Sybil tells Stefan he will too. That Cade is the answer to his problems. If he wants to help Damon all he has to do is kill the devil aka Cade. Is Cade the true “big bad” of this season? What misery awaits our heroes? Why does Sybil want Cade dead? Does that action set her free?

Just in case you missed it:

Even though we didn’t see it, Bonnie is vervaining and draining Enzo; the first step toward making him turn his switch back on.

Next Week:

Stefan decides he has to put Damon down even if that means losing him forever.

Friday’s episode [October 30th] of ‘The Vampire Diaries’ gave us a peek at the type of person our “big bad” for our final season is. Sybil, a siren and captor of Damon and Enzo, starts off the episode by luring a man to his death via singing. After she devours her meal, we learn she is unable to get inside Enzo’s head. Enzo is trying so hard to keep Sybil from finding out about Bonnie, therefore he is forced to give her a name to stop her prying. Unfortunately that name is Sarah Nelson.

Sarah Nelson aka Sarah Salvatore is the last remaining blood relative to Damon and Stefan. She is the child from their Uncle Zack and his girlfriend, who Damon murdered. Enzo realizes the danger he has put Sarah in and tries to alert the trio (Stefan, Caroline and Bonnie) by killing two other Sarah Nelson’s in North Carolina. The trio catches on and quickly races to go save Sarah before Damon and Sybil are able to get to her.

As if Bonnie hasn’t suffered enough, she becomes the third wheel to Steroline. You could see the pain cross her face when Caroline and Stefan touched hands. Bonnie is lost and hurt without Enzo. She feels so alone that she wants to die.

Caroline, Stefan and Bonnie reach Sarah and run into Enzo who was trying to help her escape. Not wanting to go anywhere with Stefan, Sarah argues and says the only way she is leaving is with Enzo. Unfortunately she doesn’t get that chance as Bonnie decides to take matters into her own hands; she vervains Enzo and kidnaps him unaware of the danger that presents. As this is going on Damon arrives, stabs Caroline, takes her daylight ring and smashes her cell phone. Damon then finds Sarah and attempts to kill her as Stefan tries talking him down. He listens and lets Sarah go only to reveal that Sybil was waiting behind the door the whole time. Sybil stabs her and compels Stefan to stay still. He can only watch Sarah die a slow and painful death. The last living Salvatore is dead. Their bloodline is gone and Stefan has been the reason behind or been involved with every Salvatore death.

Sybil is a crafty one. She overheard Stefan remind Damon about Elena and she is then able to see their first moment together. Damon stops fighting her and she is able to see their whole relationship. This is how she is going to win his complete obedience. Sybil inserts herself into all those memories erasing any trace of Elena.

We then jump back to Enzo’s kidnapping. Enzo pleads with Bonnie to let him go. He doesn’t want to put her in danger. He goes on to explain to Bonnie that if he gets too far away from Sybil she pulls him back by causing him psychical pain. Bonnie is forced to let him go and she heads back to Stefan and Caroline. Moments later Bonnie finds Caroline and gives her, her daylight ring back. The two get into an argument and Bonnie unloads all her emotions unto her. Caroline then realizes how much she had been neglecting her friend and vows to be there for her no matter what.

Speaking of vows… After Stefan creates a room in the Salvatore mansion for the twins, he proposes to Caroline. Caroline of course says yes! She is his family now. #Steroline4ever

Paradise may be in sight for this couple, not so much for Enzo and Bonnie. After Enzo returned to Sybil, Damon injures him enough to allow her to see into Enzo’s memories/subconscious. Sybil sees Enzo and Bonnie kiss. Bonnie is now in more danger than ever before. Hopefully the information Alaric and Georgie uncovered at the armory can help her.

After Georgie got over her jealousy of “the hot nanny” aka Seline, she and Ric discover a cuneiform symbol. Georgie, terrified of what she just saw, takes off after seeing the symbol. Come to find out Georgie has seen the symbol before and has a tattoo of it. Georgie tells Ric she saw the symbol when she was dead; she was texting while driving drunk and got into an accident that killed her friend. She woke up somewhere else and could only see the symbol while feeling extreme and never ending pain and loneliness. Georgie becomes a firsthand source on the cuneiform symbol and goes on to uncover a missing artifact from 1790 in the vault with the same symbol on it. This is the same vault Sybil came out of. Does it belong to her? Can it defeat her?

Next Week:

Caroline plans her wedding.

Damon plans Bonnie’s murder.

That’s right ladies and gentleman, Kevin Williamson confirmed at SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con) that season 8 will be the final season of The Vampire Diaries. As someone who has been hooked since “Hello Brother,” this news stings but really doesn’t come as a surprise. Rumors of TVD ending at season 8 have been swirling ever since lead actress Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert) left the show at the end of season 6.

Fans who attended the panel this morning at SDCC were shown a touching tribute to the fandom by showrunners Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, along with long standing members of the cast like Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Candice King and Kat Graham. You can watch the heartwarming tribute here:

Also announced at the panel was that co-creator Kevin Williamson would be back writing for the 8th season. A sizzle reel of what’s to come in TVD’s final season was also shown to panel attendees. According to Deadline.com, Plec also teased a new villain for TVD, though she won’t give many details except to say it was unlike anything the show has had before. “We have a finger so far,” she joked of the character that was developed after the WBTV series found out it was coming back one more time. According to TVline.com, an intro video, featuring that creepy hand from the Season 7 finale, teased: “This season, get ready to meet evil herself.” (That’s right, herself.) Describing the new Season 8 villain as the “final bad,” Williamson noted that it’s a “cool way to infuse Mystic Falls with this ultimate evil. It’s like a cherry on top of the entire mythology of Mystic Falls. Meanwhile, Somerhalder said, we’ll see “Damon and Enzo doing some gnarly s–t,” adding that “the mind control thing is actually quite interesting. … In their minds, they’re still them. That conflict and that struggle is what we always look for.” Sadly, Bonnie is “literally at ground zero” when Season 8 begins. “A lot of last season was about the development of the relationship Bonnie had with Enzo, and obviously Bonnie and Damon,” Graham said. “You saw the crumbling of her in the finale. She also doesn’t have her magic. The thing that made her feel like herself, and also her best friends, are not there. It’s going to be really exciting to see Bonnie’s journey this season.” Poor Stefan is “just crying, constantly,” Wesley teased. “[He’s] missing his bro, his bro-ham. It’s back to the original dynamic of the brothers. The dynamic was always Damon getting in trouble and Stefan trying to save him. … We’ll see how long that lasts, but for the current time, he has a broken heart over his big bro.” Caroline is “very busy” in Season 8, trying to maintain a connection with Alaric and the twins while also “helping Stefan and Bonnie track down Damon and Enzo.” As for everyone’s favorite human, Matt Donovan “had to make the decision to let go of that love [for the vampires].” Also every Season 8 episode title will be a line of dialogue from previous seasons. Pretty cool, huh?

Will this season’s big bad be played by actress Nadine Lewington (Containment another show written and developed by Julie Plec), seen at a table read/celebration of season 8 with the rest of the cast and crew? Or will it be Kristen Gutoskie, also from Containment, who is listed as Seline in the first episode of season 8? We shall see.

There is still no word as to whether or not Dobrev will return for season 8, although Plec has previously said she would want her to return for the series finale. Season 8 is slotted to have 23 episodes and will premiere on The CW Friday October 21st, 2016. Here’s hoping season 8 will answer all our questions, tie up loose ends, throw in some epic stories and surprises and have a satisfying ending. It’s a tall order to fill but if any cast/crew could pull it off it would be The Vampire Diaries.
