Ever since 2015’s “Lock Arff” (and their debut release Don’t Panic) South London collective Section Boyz have continued to lead the way for UK Rap’s newest generation. Two years — and a heavy Drake co-sign — later, they continue to bang out hard-hitting, roadworthy cuts for the masses.

For their latest, Littlez, Inch, Sleeks, Knine, Swift and Deepee liberate a new visual for “Step In,” the lead-off track from their March mixtape Soundcheck. In the clip (shot by rising star director Reynold Maunze of BoxMotion), the crew find themselves in the middle of an underground female boxing match. At some point, Swift even receives a tarot card reading. All-in-all, the dark, brooding clip is a perfect match for the song’s infectious hook, delivered by Inch:

Step in, bare weed smoke when I step in
Nike hangers on when I step in
Man fi know themself when I step in, wah?

Drake is currently shutting down stages overseas for his Boy Meets World tour, and is in London (where he’s now an honorary Brit, it seems) for a set of shows at The O2 Arena. While at a (presumed) after party, the Canadian artist decided to bless the crowd with a new track, which can be heard via the Instagram clip above; whether or not the catchy-sounding cut will appear on Drake’s forthcoming album More Life is yet to be confirmed.

This isn’t the first new song he’s revealed during this tour, either — while in Amsterdam for the inaugural stop, Drizzy debuted another, hard-hitting song that features South London Rap veteran Giggs (who, along with fellow South London collective Section Boyz, happened to join Drake on stage days later). All of that can be seen below; according to some critics, Drake may or may not be stealing another flow from one of Hip-Hop’s new stalwarts (many are naming near-mythical rapper XXXTentacion, who is currently incarcerated). In related news, Drake will also be in Houston for this weekend’s Super Bowl, where he’ll apparently be hosting stripper auditions. Not really all that surprising.

Chris Brown is always finding a way to redeem himself.  His recent form of redemption is his new song “Shabba” that features Wiz Kid, Hoody Baby, and Section Boyz. Though the topic of paying homage to Shabba Ranks has already been made into a song by A$AP Ferg, I’d say there’s room for a couple more! Clearly Shabba Ranks is associated with the fast and flashy lifestyle, and many want to emulate. This is cool in a way considering different artists are able to pay tribute in their own specific ways and sounds.

Chris Brown’s “Shabba” is more smooth and has his signature R&B twist to it. It’s not as trap and beat heavy as A$AP Ferg’s version and features more tones of the dance hall aesthetic. Considering the features Chris has included in this song it is also more versatile and unique. One thing that couldn’t be left out was the gold rings and chains though. They were just iconic!

It’s good to see Chris bring in talent from different countries. The Nigerian new comer Wiz Kid and London’s very own Section Boyz and Hoody Baby bring a sound that no other popular artist in America could today. Considering the fact that dance hall is on the rise, this may have been an attempt to stay in the now by mentioning the great Shabba Ranks.

All in all it is great to see different artist intermingling sounds. It seems like the older generations are always talking down on us for our music choices. I’d say its just an experimental stage, and this song definitely embodies the different aesthetics coming together for one huge collaboration we’ve haven’t fully experienced before. Hip- Hop is coming back to life in its own way!
