The Philadelphia 76ers make history by being the first in North America major sports that will have advertising on their jerseys.

The ticket resale company, Stubhub, were already the Sixers’ cooperate partner. Now the team will be wearing a StubHub patch  on the left side of the front of their jersey. The NBA Board of governors approved the sale of the jerseys sponsorship last month for the 2017-18 season.

 “This marks another groundbreaking first for the Philadelphia 76ers and StubHub,” Sixers CEO, Scott O’Neil said in a statement. “Our brands are inextricably linked as we create lifelong memories for our fans in Philadelphia and around the world.”

Sources say it’s a 5M deal for three years. According to ESPN, NBA teams will keep half of the money generated by selling sponsorships on jerseys, and that half will be further split in two, with one portion going to the individual team that does the deal and the other going to a revenue-sharing pool. The half that does not go to the teams will be split with the players and will contribute to a rising salary cap.

The jersey’s sold to fans worldwide will not have the sponsor on it but they will be sold at their home locations.
