]]> asaadUpon arrival, Philly’s Silk City Diner doesn’t look the part of a underground hip hop venue. It looks like a diner. However, hiding behind the stainless steel counter tops and cushioned booths is an amazing hip hop bar and lounge where Philly’s own Asaad (Saudi Money) hosted his Flowers II album release party. With Matt Ford and Salomon Faye as opening acts, and DJ Stylo on the turntables, the event was a successful welcome back party for Asaad following his brief hiatus this summer. Judging by the polished work on Flowers II and the level of intensity he brought to the stage, Asaad is quickly becoming a must-see for Philly hip-hop fans. While we wait for Asaad’s upcoming 006 LP, dropping this March, he just dropped some words via Tumblr breaking down his name change (now Saudi Money), his early career, and not receiving much love for early projects like Flowers. Following a successful show at The Philadelphia Mausoleum of Modern Art, he wrote the message below:

WASSUP WITH YALL I WAS TELLIN SHORTY THE OTHER DAY I DONT BE ON TUMBLR NO MORE, DONT TAKE IT PERSONAL I JUST DONT BE ON THE INTERNET LIKE THAT. IM PREPPING FOR THE RELEASE OF MY DEBUT ALBUM 006. IM FINALLY FINISHED AFTER 2 YEARS IN THE MAKING 4 IF YOU COUNT THE ALBUM 19 THAT WAS SHELVED. IVE BEEN THROUGH ALOT IN THE LAST 2 YEARS & IT HAS HELPED ME DEVELOP MY CHARACTER TO BE THE MAN I AM TODAY. IM STILL YOUNG THO JUST TURNED 22 & IM WINNING.
