Wale stopped by The Breakfast club this morning to discuss with Charlemagne Tha God, DJ Envy, and Angela Yee his upcoming album Shine, new single “My P.Y.T,” relationship with Meek Mill, and his thoughts on his career at the moment. In recent years its been difficult to categorize Wale among other rappers, because he’s truly in his own tier of hip-hop, simple as that. While in the past Wale has voiced his frustration on the subject, considering his catalog holds several gold albums and platinum singles. However, this time around Wale appears to have embodied a whole new confidence and yet still doesn’t understand why fans still feel they have to be low-key about their fandom.

“Stop being closet fans, we laughing at you. Stop it,” said Wale.

Sam Sneak, fellow Maybach Music Group label mate, and featured artist on “My P.Y.T,” also spoke briefly on his relationship with Rick Ross, his contributions to the label and the possibility of an album one day.

Thereafter, Wale continued discussing his frustrations on stagnant fans who hold on to certain songs, not necessarily because of the track itself but because the track often represents a specific point in time in the fans life. Wale made a really insightful point on how when the people around them (the fan) change, and what they do on a daily basis, it feels like the music isn’t the same. A fallacy known all too well by artists of all genres. In respects to his upcoming album, Shine, Wale shared with The Breakfast Club crew that while past albums have been more for him, “Shine, is for the world. ‘My P.Y.T’ is for the world.”

While Wale isn’t known for beef in the rap game, his relationship with fellow MMG label mate, Meek Mill, hasn’t been solid over the last few years and even looked to be all but over last November. Surprisingly however, Wale cleared the air while on air and clarified that “At the end of the day, that’s my n****.” He continued on to show that he was excited that Meek’s sophomore album Dreams Worth More Than Money had successfully clinched Best Rap Album at the Billboard Music Awards over the likes of Future, Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
