Winter is coming to Detroit but rapper Sam Austins is heating up the city with his latest EP titled ANGST.

The Michigan native has put together his alternative R&B project which has some calling him a mix between The Weeknd and Jeremih, with the project itself capturing a TRAPSOUL vibe.

This EP comes from real-life experiences Sam went through and is some of his most personal music to date:

3 years ago, I felt like I was at my lowest point in life, and honestly, I thought I was going to die. In this moment of desperation, I would try to find anything to distract me from what was my reality. My anxiety at an all time high, I dove deep into my mind, drugs, and poisonous individuals.

If you haven’t heard, Sam has received co-signs from artists like Black Milk, Big Sean, impresario Jonny Shipes, as well as global fashion icon Phillip Lim, who said Sam “embodied the presence of genius” on record. Sam was recently styled by the designer for his 2017 New York Fashion Week show, where he was seated alongside Diplo, AlunaGeorge and Big Sean.

Who knew you could have so much fun with Fiji water? Sam Austins, apparently, because he has a ton of it in his video for “Fiji.” He originally linked with production duo Take A Daytrip in New York, and “Fiji” os one of the tracks they cooked up. After a ton of listens on both Spotify and Soundcloud, Austins has come forward with a rather fun set of visuals for the record.

Premiered by Pigeons & Planes, the visual is one that will catch your attention easy. There’s a ton of Fiji water in the video and Austins shoots it out of water guns, gets it poured on him, gets in a pool full of it and a bunch of other stuff. Kurt Schneider was behind the camera on this one, and we can say he did his thing throughout.

We can’t wait to see what Austins has in store in the near feature.

It seems like recently we’ve seen a lot of new artists emerge out of Detroit, and we have another one for you today. Sam Austins has been putting work in on the underground scene for a little while, and with his single “Fiji” taking off he’s been increasing said workload. Today, he’s dropped off a video for his track “Right Here 4 U,” and it’s dope.

Sam and his counterpart in the video, a very pretty woman, go on a adventure in the four minute video. They run through some abandoned buildings, get chased by a dog, and at one point even have a thumb war. Austins says his new EP is on the way, and if that’s true we can’t wait.
