Today it was announced that hip-hop superstars A$AP Rocky and Chance the Rapper are set to headline this year’s Black Ball, the annual concert held in NYC by charity organization Keep a Child Alive. Keep a Child Alive, founded in 2003 by current president Leigh Blake, provides quality care to families affected by HIV, especially children. For over a decade, the organization has managed to attract some of the industry’s top talent with the help of co-founder Alicia Keys, including David Bowie, Adele, and Justin Timberlake.

Both A$AP Rocky and Chance have been hard at work as of late, with the former having been confirmed to be working on his third studio album and the latter being in the middle of his Magnificent Coloring World Tour so it’s great to see them come together for a great cause. Along with them, the event will also feature sets from hip-hop trio Salt-n-Pepa and punk legend Patti Smith. This year’s Black Ball will take place on October 19th and you can get more information from their website.

This year’s VH1 Hip Hop Honors was a tribute to the lady trailblazers of Hip-Hop. The honorees included Salt-N-Pepa with their DJ Spinderella, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliot, and Lil’ Kim. The show began with an amazing tribute to Missy Elliot by performers such as Nelly Furtado, Eve (who also hosted the show),and Remy Ma. Missy was honored by Timbaland, Busta Rhymes, and a few other artist who she’s helped in her career such as Fantasia and Monica. Queen Latifah had MC’s Da Brat, Lady of Rage, Monie Love, and others to help in her tribute. She later closed the show by bringing all the other female MC’s including MC Lyte to join her in performing “U.N.I.T.Y.” Keke Palmer, Dreezy, and Ashanti did a tribute honoring the sex talking, trail-blazing duo Salt-N-Pepa.

Lil’ Kim’s tribute was saved for last but certainly not least. After being introduced by Faith Evans, Lil Mama, Teyana Taylor, French Montana, and The Lox went out and performed some of her classics. She later came out and performed a song with Rich Homie Quan who was picked to rap Biggie’s part. The show even included a surprise cameo from Diddy and a runway fashion show of Ms. Kim the Queen B’s most iconic looks. All in all, VH1 put on a great show honoring these women.

Hosted by SiriusXM 90s on 9, the first 90sFEST was met with excitement and pure nostalgia. Taking place this past Saturday, September 12 at 50 Kent in Brooklyn, N.Y., the Nickelodeon, Steve Madden, and Sunny Delight-sponsored event featured activities and performances bound to transport concert-goers back to a time where jelly sandals were high-key in fashion, Zack Morris was bae af, and “Whatever” was the perfect response to all of life’s existential questions.

Featuring performances from Salt n Pepa, Naughty By Nature, Smash Mouth, and more, the fest even brought out such celebs as actress AnnaSophia Robb and entertainment blogger Perez Hilton to help take things back to one of the greatest decades. Footage from 90sFEST will air on SiriusXM 90s on 9 September 19 at 2 P.M. E.T. and again September 20 at 8 P.M. E.T.
