Sacha Jenkins, Dave East, & Rapsody Discuss Netflix’s Original Documentary Series, “Rapture”

The highly anticipated Netflix original documentary series, “Rapture” premiered yesterday [March 30]. This new film stares directly into the bright light that hip hop culture shines on the world and doesn’t blink. The 8 episodes feature a star-studded line up including some of the most diverse artists; Nas, Dave East, Rapsody, T.I., Logic, G-Eazy, A Boogie, 2 Chainz, and Just Blaze.

Haus Of Creators got a chance to sit down with one of the executive producers/director – Sacha Jenkins, along with Dave East and Rapsody for an exclusive discussion on hip-hop, the series, and what’s next. Check out the full interview below!

Album Stream: The White Mandingos – The Ghetto Is Tryna Kill Me

The White Mandingos (comprised of Murs, Darryl Jenifer and Sacha Jenkins) have released the stream for their debut album. The concept record is told through the perspective of Tyrone White, a band front-man from the Harlem’s Polo Grounds Houses. Jenkins said of the story in a press release:

“He feels misunderstood–by his women, his friends, his people. And that misunderstanding sometimes affects who he is and who he truly wants to be. Should he not be playing this music because he’s black? And who the hell is in the position to tell him what to do anyways?”

Beastie Boys are Releasing a Memoir

The two surviving members of the legendary Beastie Boys crew, Michael Diamond (Mike D) and Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock), have signed a deal with Spiegel & Grau, an imprint of Random House Publishing (who also published Jay Z’s Decoded). The deal is for an oral history memoir of the group, edited by ego trip co-founder Sacha Jenkins.

Julie Grau, the publisher of Spiegel & Grau, says the memoir will have a strong visual component to it, similar to the Beastie Boys’ ’90s mag, Grand Royal. According to the NYT, the book was in development for years but was put aside following the death of Adam “MCA” Yauch. Now, Diamond and Horovitz are said to be prepared to go ahead with the project. “I think that Adam and Mike ended up realizing that it was the right time for them,” said the group’s manager, Luke Janklow.

The memoir is currently slated for a Fall 2015 release.
