<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><em>Mr. Brainwash</em></strong></p>
<p>This week was a goldmine for street art. New murals invaded our streets. Our print of the week was released by <strong>Mr. Brainwash, </strong>who got the ball rolling with his piece,  &#8220;Art is not a crime,&#8221; which is <a href="http://mrbrainwash.com/store/storeprints/artisnotacrime.html">available as a print</a><strong>.</strong>  This theme is very popular in the domain of street art and it can get repetitive at times, but you have to appreciate Mr. Brainwash for its clarity and its aesthetics.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>Vinz</strong></em></p>
<p><strong>Vinz</strong> is currently painting some original &#8220;adverts&#8221; in the streets London. One of them includes the use of the apple slogan, &#8220;Think Different,&#8221; portraying a mutant fish with a human body in a straight jacket.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>Nychos</strong></em></p>
<p><strong>Nychos</strong>&#8216; work had gone missing since April when he dropped a mural in <strong>Italy</strong>. He is now in Denmark where he produced this  billboard piece as a part of the billboard festival at <strong>Kunsthal Brænderigården.</strong></p>

<p><strong><a href="http://la-pandilla.com/" target="_blank">Alexis Diaz</a> </strong>is currently in <strong>France</strong> where he spent the last two weeks working on this amazing piece for the <strong>Rio Loco Festival. </strong></p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>Ludo</strong></em></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>Ludo </strong>dropped this sweet  new piece of a beastly robot entitled &#8220;Psorophora Encaustum&#8221;. His work seems to portray a fight between species, a possible comment on extinction.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://respect-mag.com/?attachment_id=62831" rel="attachment wp-att-62831"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="62831" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2013/06/street-art-best-of-the-week-11/internalpartsphlegm/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/internal+parts+phlegm.jpg?fit=640%2C481&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="640,481" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="phlegm " data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/internal+parts+phlegm.jpg?fit=640%2C481&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/internal+parts+phlegm.jpg?fit=640%2C481&amp;ssl=1" class="size-full wp-image-62831 aligncenter" alt="phlegm " src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/internal+parts+phlegm.jpg?resize=640%2C481" width="640" height="481" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><em>Phlegm</em></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>Phlegm </strong>has been exploring new shapes. Deviating from his long, tribal, <a href="http://streetartlondon.co.uk/blog/2011/06/13/phlegm-street-art-west-london/">signature character</a>, Phlegm went back to his hometown of Sheffield, where he spent weeks working on this large piece. One aim remains consistent in his work: to paint the relationship between imaginary worlds of entertainment and creativity.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>Icy and Sot</strong></em></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Discover the work of <a href="http://icyandsot.com/"><strong>Icy and Sot.</strong></a> The <strong>Iran</strong>-based stencil artist dropped by <strong>Williamsburg, New York. </strong>The artist works with the politically charged themes of poverity, peace, youth and war in order to “remind [ourselves] that art has always been a mode of resistance, and graffiti has always been a political gesture.” If you stop by <strong>Brooklyn</strong>, you&#8217;ll be able to find this one on South 6 by the bridge.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><em>ROA</em></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>ROA </strong>painted this piece in <strong>Linz, Austria. </strong>His gigantic mural features various images of tortured animals. The artist&#8217;s work is like a hymn for animals, shocking viewers into caring more for animals who are suffering.</p>

<p>This week in the international-street-art-sphere portraiture was the method of choice. Just for you, we&#8217;ve compiled the portraits that we found to be most striking. View them below.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://respect-mag.com/street-art-aryz-is-back-for-the-galore-festival-2012/">Aryz</a></strong> (above) worked on a collaboration with <strong><a href="http://davidchoeama.com/" target="_blank">David Choe</a></strong> in <strong>L.A.</strong> You can clearly distinguish the American&#8217;s artist surrealistic style colliding with the <strong>Aryz</strong>&#8216;s creepy world.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://respect-mag.com/?attachment_id=60376" rel="attachment wp-att-60376"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="60376" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2013/05/street-art-best-of-the-week-the-art-of-portraiture/streetartnews_invader_london_star_wars-3/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_invader_london_star_wars-3.jpg?fit=640%2C428&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="640,428" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="INVADER STARWARS " data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_invader_london_star_wars-3.jpg?fit=640%2C428&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_invader_london_star_wars-3.jpg?fit=640%2C428&amp;ssl=1" class="size-full wp-image-60376 aligncenter" alt="INVADER STARWARS " src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_invader_london_star_wars-3.jpg?resize=640%2C428" width="640" height="428" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a><strong><em>Invader</em></strong></p>
<p>Last time we heard from <a href="http://respect-mag.com/street-art-spiderman-invades-the-heart-of-paris/"><strong>Invader</strong></a> he was pasting a mosaic of Spider-man onto the Parisian landscape. The French artist now dropped a new work in <strong>London</strong> depicting another hero, <strong>Luke Skywalker, </strong>chilling out with his father, <strong>Darth Vader</strong>.</p>
<p><a href="http://respect-mag.com/?attachment_id=60380" rel="attachment wp-att-60380"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="60380" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2013/05/street-art-best-of-the-week-the-art-of-portraiture/streetartnews_benslow_mearone_sanfrancisco-jpg3/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_benslow_mearone_sanfrancisco.jpg3_.jpg?fit=640%2C255&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="640,255" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="benslowmearone" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_benslow_mearone_sanfrancisco.jpg3_.jpg?fit=640%2C255&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_benslow_mearone_sanfrancisco.jpg3_.jpg?fit=640%2C255&amp;ssl=1" class="size-full wp-image-60380 aligncenter" alt="benslowmearone" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_benslow_mearone_sanfrancisco.jpg3_.jpg?resize=640%2C255" width="640" height="255" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><em>Ben Slow &amp; Mear One</em></strong></p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.slowbenart.com/" target="_blank">Ben Slow</a> </strong>and <a href="http://www.mearone.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Mear One</strong> </a>worked on a politically charged collaboration for the streets of <strong>San Francisco</strong>. The two street artists portrayed Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan in a light that acknowledges their shadier dealings.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://respect-mag.com/?attachment_id=60382" rel="attachment wp-att-60382"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="60382" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2013/05/street-art-best-of-the-week-the-art-of-portraiture/streetartnews_jacktml_germany-1/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_jacktml_germany-1.jpg?fit=640%2C425&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="640,425" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="_jacktml_" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_jacktml_germany-1.jpg?fit=640%2C425&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_jacktml_germany-1.jpg?fit=640%2C425&amp;ssl=1" class="size-full wp-image-60382 aligncenter" alt="_jacktml_" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_jacktml_germany-1.jpg?resize=640%2C425" width="640" height="425" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a><strong><em>Jack TML</em></strong></p>
<p>The incredible Israeli artist <a href="http://respect-mag.com/street-art-jack-tmls-characters-floating-in-the-meaningless/"><strong>Jack TML</strong></a> was recently in <strong>Germany</strong> to paint an indoor piece somewhere in <strong>Munich</strong>. His figurative work is charged with feelings of distance and proximity.</p>
<p><a href="http://respect-mag.com/?attachment_id=60385" rel="attachment wp-att-60385"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="60385" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2013/05/street-art-best-of-the-week-the-art-of-portraiture/streetartnews_aryz_sanfrancisco-5/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_aryz_sanfrancisco-5.jpg?fit=640%2C587&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="640,587" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="ARYZ SAN FRAN" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_aryz_sanfrancisco-5.jpg?fit=640%2C587&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_aryz_sanfrancisco-5.jpg?fit=640%2C587&amp;ssl=1" class="size-full wp-image-60385 aligncenter" alt="ARYZ SAN FRAN" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_aryz_sanfrancisco-5.jpg?resize=640%2C587" width="640" height="587" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Aryz</strong>, prior to his collaboration with <strong>David Choe,</strong> worked on a gigantic mural in <strong>San Francisco</strong>. The Barcelona-based artist worked on merging the insides and outsides of his female character using his signature color pallet.</p>
<p><a href="http://respect-mag.com/?attachment_id=60386" rel="attachment wp-att-60386"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="60386" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2013/05/street-art-best-of-the-week-the-art-of-portraiture/streetartnews_stik_chichester-1122/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_stik_chichester-1122.jpg?fit=640%2C640&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="640,640" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="Stick" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_stik_chichester-1122.jpg?fit=640%2C640&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_stik_chichester-1122.jpg?fit=640%2C640&amp;ssl=1" class="size-full wp-image-60386 aligncenter" alt="Stick" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/streetartnews_stik_chichester-1122.jpg?resize=640%2C640" width="640" height="640" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://respect-mag.com/street-art-stik-beauty-is-in-movement/"><strong>Stik</strong></a> is currently honoring the <a href="http://www.chicagoevents.com/event.cfm?eid=141">Chichester Street Art Festival</a>  alongside <a href="http://respect-mag.com/street-art-phlegm-run-the-art-of-balance/"><strong>Run &amp; Phlegm. </strong></a>Working with his minimalistic stick figures, the British artist produces a piece that creates movement through subtlety.</p>

<p>In the past week, <a href="http://respect-mag.com/street-art-phlegm-a-wall-between-reality-and-fantasy/"><strong>Phlegm</strong></a> and <a href="http://www.runabc.org/walls.html"><strong>Run</strong></a> have been producing large solo murals in <strong>Chichester</strong>. In honor of the <a href="http://www.chicagoevents.com/event.cfm?eid=141">Chichester Street Art Festival</a>, the British and Italian street artists have been hard at work on a new collaboration. Knowing more about <strong>Run </strong>will contribute understanding this piece. First, it&#8217;s necessary to trace his roots as a street artist (which are very different from <strong>Phlegm&#8217;s</strong>). &#8220;My first big wall was in 2003 while squatting in a building in Italy,&#8221; (see below). &#8220;The meaning of that painting was <em>we are here now and we haven’t got fear of nobody</em>,” says <strong>Run</strong>. Back then, his work was simple and carried an effortless innocence and youthfulness. With time and acquired confidence, he &#8220;developed some shapes (hands and legs). Then [he] added characters, characters wearing those hands like a fancy dress costume.&#8221; As a result, his murals became increasingly surrealistic. However, his original love for organic shapes and simplicity explain why his collaboration with <strong>Phlegm </strong>was successful.</p>

<p><strong>Phlegm</strong> is naturally drawn to a diverse range of themes, saying of his tastes that he is &#8220;always drawn to simple things that accumulate and become more complex.&#8221; His taste for simplicity brings a rich sensitivity to his murals. <strong></strong>Both artists incorporated their signature figures in their collaboration harmoniously, even though their ideologies are quite different. <strong>Run</strong> believes that &#8220;tags and wall writing graffiti are almost invisible in a busy visual environment.&#8221; The artist wants to create a contrast between the streets and his work. &#8220;If the background is grey, let&#8217;s use as much color as we can!&#8221; However, <strong>Phlegm</strong> is one to go for extreme discretion. In fact, his ideal location to paint would be a &#8220;ghost island in Japan. Or any deserted city.&#8221; <strong>Phlegm</strong> spends a lot of time painting deserted factories. He appreciates &#8220;the idea of wondering around an entire empty city. I’d love to be able to live there for a year and just paint everything.&#8221; This contrast in personalities ended up with a mural that mirrors an ideal balance between two characters and their fantasy world. <p style="text-align: center;">Once again, <strong>Kid Cudi</strong> is experimenting with rock sound by joining <strong>The Knux </strong>in this latest track. &#8220;<strong>Run</strong>&#8221; is a classic summer single &#8211; fast-paced, a bit repetitive, and with a sick beat. This tune from The Knux&#8217;s upcoming album, <strong><em>Eraser</em></strong>, is definitely a catchy one. Listen to it right here:</p>
