The Golden State Warriors are NBA champions again. Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant aligned themselves together, forming a dream team that beat the LeBron James, Kyrie Irving-led Cleveland Cavaliers in five games.

Durant was heavily criticized by fans, media personalities and players for his Oklahoma to Oakland retreat, but he got the last laugh.

“Great move,” rapper E40 told me last summer. “The chemistry will be well. He picked the right team to go to. He looked them boys in the eyes and he saw genuine people because that’s what they are. And you know teamwork makes the dream work man and I think we’ll be alright. I think we’re going to have a great season. I’m going to be right there courtside looking at everything being and imaginary coach.”

“It’s a business decision,” NFL pro-bowler told me. “Those two words right there: business and decision is what general managers and owners use when they cut people and they make billions on business moves. So, these guys are getting smart just like owners and people in those managerial positions making business decisions.”

The Warriors have it all: two championships in three years, a knowledgable coach in Steve Kerr and a fly sideline reporter in Ros Gold Onwude. An Emmy-Award winning broadcaster, Onwude is the sideline reporter for regional broadcasts of Golden State Warriors and San Francisco 49ers games. She intermittently does New York Liberty broadcasts on MSG Network, sideline reporting on TNT and does college basketball analysis on ESPN.

She also has the distinction of having the flyest interviews like this one with Javale McGee

She’s professional and has a good rapport with everyone she covers. That said, the Banana Republic ambassador went viral last year in Toronto while doing an interview with Drake, apparently the 6 God wanted to take her out on a date; all in fun of course. Yeah it definitely caught me by surprise but when I first met him,” Ros Gold-Onwude told me on Scoop B Radio. “The first thing was the connection because we’re both black and Jewish. You know, my father my father is Nigerian and my mom is white, you know from Russian, Eastern European background and Jewish. So, you know, we have that in common.

But it’s all business. Drake and Ros have formed a bond on common ground: the love of basketball.

For those tardy to the party, Onwude, a Queens, NY native won two basketball state titles at Christ The King High School before going on to help Stanford make three consecutive trips to the Final Four and winning Pac 10 defensive player of the year.

On the hoops connection with Drake, Onwude told me: 

“He’s a big time basketball fan, we’ve become friends through; just his passion for the game. He’s come to a lot of games, he’s become really good friends with Steph Curry and his family. So we met through that and every time he’s around, it’s always fun, jokes, laughter. It’s a whole crew of us that’ll end up hanging out together or seeing each other at these games. So it’s been really cool to cultivate a friendship with him.”
