If you’ve been on social media lately, chances are you’ve seen #RIPVINE somewhere. The creators of the popular social media site, Vine, have recently announced that they will be discontinuing the app. Twitter and Vine come together to issue a statement on the matter and the plans going forward. Although the use of the Vine app has decreased in recent years, the fan base has still remained. Chances are, if you have a Twitter account, you’ve spent a ton of time just scrolling through these short videos to get a laugh. Some of the most popular dance moves, sayings, and jokes have come from Vine; and so many popular Viners have been able to gain a level of celebrity status that many probably did not see coming.

Seth Fiegerman of CNN Money says:

“When Twitter bought Vine in 2012 for a rumored $30 million, there were already dozens of similar social video apps available from startups. But Vine would have access to something none of these others did: Twitter’s large user base.”

Whether you were an avid Vine user, or even just someone who caught the latest videos on Twitter, the app itself will definitely be missed. #RIPVINE
