After breaking into the mainstream in 2019 with his infectious single, “Makeup”, Mattress God is back with 2020’s strip club anthem “Fresh Cut.”

An eclectic mix of Uncle Luke and Too Short would be the best way to describe the salacious hit, which is destined to become the anthem for the summer.

Describing the goal behind his career switch from being a disc Jockey to being a rapper, the Richmond bred rapper said, “My goal is to be the next star out of Richmond. I also want to be in a position to give back to the community and take care of my family.” The passion in that statement can be felt on “Back to Richmond” a reflective track from his debut project, Dirty Mattress: The Mixtape which he released in May 2018.

Inside of Evan Barlow’s commitment to raise the bar of sound in art, he pushes the envelope with the release of his emotionally surged new single “Come Together,” from his forthcoming project titled FABRICS. The rising star unveils his real life struggle as a recovering drug addict in the new bona-fide banger, dropping lyrics that bring vividness to the dark corners of drug temptation.  This is  clearly a personal and important record to Barlow, peep some of the lyrics you’ll listen to on the single.

I lay I’m restless I cannot believe I questioning going back second guessing myself, I know the answer is no! The Richmond, Virginia native is known for shattering genre-barriers and effortlessly merging different types of music to achieve a new sound he’s coined as “music of the day after tomorrow.” Barlow is currently in the studio working on his highly anticipated upcoming mixtape FABRICS. He has worked with an incredible group of artists on his new project, which include the talented producer Bink (Kanye West, Jay Z), Pop Wansel producers Some Randoms, Chally who is signed to Timbaland, Macklemore’s horn players Greg Kramer and Ouwor Arunga, as well as Andrew Hypes, Will Perry and more.

Richmond, Va has a lot to be proud of when it comes to hip-hop artist, Nickelus F.  Recently, it was unveiled that Nickelus F became a piece of art in a mural, pictured below, in the state capitol. Over the summer, he even discussed with Complex Magazine about his business with Drake.

“Complex: So anyone who says, “Nickelus F writes for Drake” would be mistaken?

Nickelus F: Yes. Have I done work here and there? Yes I have. Do I write for him on a regular basis? No. Have I written for him on a regular basis? No.”

As he continues to gain momentum, he drops his “Triflin'” album right on time!  Now, I would stream it for you, but that’ll take from his pockets.  I pay attention to detail.  When you notice that the link on an artist’s Instagram profile is to buy their album, take heed.  Just know, this album is a front to back head-bopping, get hype, pure dopeness. Plus, a majority of the production is by Nick Fury himself. This slapper from Oakland-bred rapper, Xcel, features the Bay Area’s crooner-of-the-moment, Rayven Justice. With its synth-heavy beats and lighthearted, flirtatious lyrics, it’s the perfect end of summer anthem. Not only is it about every young person’s dream— having a whole house to yourself—but it’s sure to get the party cracking.  And if you didn’t know better, you might even think it was a Teeflii or Ty Dolla $ign banger. Not bad. Not bad at all.
