Big K.R.I.T. has created a big buzz for himself in the past few years, finding a way to be a favorite amongst the hypebeasts and hip-hop heads alike. After blessing the masses with classic mix tapes like K.R.I.T. Wuz Here and Return of 4eva, the Mississippi emcee gave his fans a memorial day gift by streaming his entire debut album Live From the Underground. All 16 tracks are available for your online listening pleasure.

The album includes features from Ludacris, Devin the Dude, Melanie Fiona, and the legendary B.B. King, just to mention a few. Live From the Underground is overall a mellow and soulful album with heavy bass lines and slick lyrics. In the midst of all the turnt up music/albums that have been put out by artist like Travis Porter and Future, KRIT gives us a conscious glimpse of growing up in the deep south.

This album is subwoofer friendly and anyone with a nice sound system in their car will definitely enjoy tracks like “I Got This Here” and “Pull Up.” KRIT is establishing himself as an ‘industry rebel’ and a premiere rapper by not selling out and forgetting his country roots with tracks like “Cool to Be Southern.” The lyrical content of the album, though, is honestly what southern rap has been missing.

Though the album is filled with tracks fit for different occasions and is enjoyable to listen to, the question of album sales arises. It’s not often that an artist streams their entire album, especially their debut album online before it drops. This is risky business considering that the album was pushed back from its original date twice. It may help or hurt KRIT. Sales can suffer due to unsatisfied fans who felt the album did not meet expectations, or sales can rocket due to support from old and new fans. We will see when Live From the Underground becomes available June 5.
