German singer, Mark Morrison has never had a song bigger than his 1996 hit, “Return of the Mack”, but by the looks of it, he doesn’t need one, as today marks 20 years since the joint debuted.

This song is forever, for so many reasons. For one, it came out at the perfect time. 1996 worked so well because it isn’t so long ago that people are too young to remember, but it’s also not so recent that old heads can turn their noses up at it. Also, “Return of the Mack” was the introduction to the flex, or the “glo up”, if you will. This guy sat down and made a whole song about a chick who did him wrong, and while he was heartbroken at first, he picked his heart up off the ground and remembered just who the fuck he was; and it was JAMMIN’!

The difference between Mark Morrison and the other one-hit wonders that we have come to know, is that to this very day “Return of the Mack” can come on at a party, and it will be one of the rare moments that you see people actually get up and dance (because you know they don’t do that, anymore). Cheers to you, Mark. You dropped a timeless record, and if we never get another song or album from you, it’s all good. Long Live The Mack.
