Boston MC, REKS has now dropped some visuals for his single, “H.I.P. H.O.P.” from his latest released project The Greatest X (pronounced The Greatest Unknown). On this track REKS proclaims his love for the culture while touting his own skills and speaking on the power that the genre has to uplift the masses. The video keeps it simple as it captures the Boston spitter firing his lyrical darts while backed by a gritty black and white skyline. Apollo Brown is to thank for the soulful boom bap production on this anthem.

The Greatest X was released for the masses late last year as a double disc project and features a plethora of artists such as Termanology, Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson and many others. Additionally, several standout producers including Statik Selektah, DJ Premier, and The Alchemist made sure to put their stamp on this project as well.

You can purchase The Greatest X here and give the new video for “H.I.P. H.O.P.” a look below.

The German producer/DJ had a hell of a run this year, with the release of his instrumental Scenes LP. If you’re not familiar with Superior, we heavily suggest you checking out his soundscapes and wrapping your head around this collaboration afterwards (via Below System Records).
Termanology releases a behind the scenes documentary chronicling the making of his album “Shut Up And Rap.” However you choose to classify Term, (backpacker, underground legend, etc.) one thing is for certain, his grass-roots rhyme patterns and Golden Age musical ideology has laid the groundwork for myriad lyricist over the past seven or so years. On the advent of his newest album, (released 12.9.14) Termanology offers up a behind the scenes look at the making of the project. The doc highlights studio sessions, Billy Loman’s production efforts, the implementing of numerous guest features, (REKS, Skyzoo, and Statik Selektah, to name a few) and Term’s creative process behind both the album and documentary itself. “Shut Up And Rap” delivers artistic insight into one of the more prominent underground lyricists out and as far as the title..well..it’s pretty self-explanatory.

Reks presents us with the intro to his latest project, Rebelutionary, set to be released on July 24. The video features images of Fred Hampton delivering speeches with a slow, crying guitar in the background, slowly leading listeners into the soon-to-be-released project.

Still basking in the praise that his collaborative LP with Statik Selektah, Straight No Chaser, generated upon its release less than two months ago, REKS returns to make his presence felt in two consecutive quarters with his latest full-length project. REKS linked up with emerging producer Numonics for Rebelutionary.

Termanology is a Boston-bred emcee who reps Essex county, ‘Lawtown’ to be specific. Among other distinctions, Termanology is the self-proclaimed Cameo King. He has worked with such esteemed hip-hoppers as DJ Premier, Styles P, Sheek Louch, Freeway, Bun B, and the list goes on and on. He’s even worked with young cats like Mac Miller.

On May 4th, Termanology dropped in on Toronto’s monthly hip-hop event, Droppin’ Knowledge, to spit a few bars alongside homies Reks and Statik Selektah. He showed up late, around 1 a.m., clad in a Boston Celtics jersey and a Celtics fitted, his left arm in a sling. Upon being asked about his injury, Termanology responded, “Some fun stuff,” and began to chuckle to himself. He chilled in the dressing room while Statik fussed over a bottle of Hennessy and the set list. Then he asked, “Where’s Reks?” Statik sighed. “Probably out smoking,” he muttered. And sure enough, that’s where Reks was.

When they were all assembled in the dressing room, the two emcees, Reks and Termanology, and their DJ, Statik Selektah, proceeded with a short pre-show prayer. They huddled with their arms around each other, then split off. Reks and Statik took to the stage first, and received a warm welcome from the Toronto crowd — a diverse mix of suburban kids, hipster runoff, and culture fiends — while Termanology remained backstage. He sipped on Hennessy and let his thoughts go. He would go on later, to a generous applause from the waning Toronto crowd.

Despite a thinning in numbers towards the end of the night, Toronto fans loved Termanology. He is the epitome of what they call ‘real hip-hop’. Something like a cousin to the original cats like Premier, whom Termanology has made many records with, and the purists who still make East Coast music on the East Coast — unlike A$AP and his crew, who exist in a vacuum of Tumblr re-appropriations.

At the end of his set Termanology ordered Statik to kill the beat. He had Reks help him remove his sling, then he addressed the crowd with his severely bruised arm literally hanging from its socket. “Listen,” he barked into the mic. “Two hours before we were scheduled to come up here I broke my arm. It was either go to the hospital and miss the show or jump on the plane with a broken arm. I jumped on the plane. That’s real muthafuckin’ hip-hop.” Then Statik dropped the beat.

Watch the Cameo King in all his grotesque glory…
