Compton’s own, Kendrick Lamar gives us motivational lyrics as he drops his new Reebok Classics commercial

“From the very heart of me, belief becomes action and no distractions will take my eyes off the prize. Greatness is my goal, but there’s failure on the way.” These inspirational words start the ad off as Lamar is walking through a ancient or medieval-like place. “But what I can’t control, can’t confine me and what I can’t do can’t stop me this is how I express myself not how I follow others expectation, but how I stay true,” Kendrick continues.

The company was able to snag one of Hip-Hop’s most inspiring artist of our generation, in 2014 is when K.Dot first announced his partnership with Reebok.

The 30 minute ad was directed by Colin Tilley, who also was apart of the empowering and poetic “Alright” video.

Last year, Reebok and Kendrick teamed up with their ad promoting the stop to gang violence. His Reebok classic x Kendrick Ventilators sneaker dropped last summer. One foot had a representation of blood, with “red” on the back of the shoe, and the other having “blue” on the back with the representation of crips. The tongue of the shoe has “neutral” on it, attempting to show a way for the two gangs to unite instead of beefing. The rapper grew up in one of the biggest homes to gangs, Compton, CA.  Lamar is always trying to bring a change through music and style, but with the struggles the world is still facing, there must be more great things to come from the Hip-Hop star.
