<strong>The Illuzion</strong> leader <strong>Salomon Faye</strong> is back at it with his new visual for the banger &#8220;W.T.F.&#8221; The Paris-born, Harlem-bred MC has been making a lot of noise lately in the world of music and fashion and has now unveiled his latest release in promotion of his upcoming EP &#8220;<em>The Stimulation</em>&#8221; to be released April 28th. The video was originally debuted through Big Boy&#8217;s site which was paired with an in-depth interview which can be found <a href="http://www.radiobigboy.com/music/premiere-salomon-faye-wtf-video-exclusive-interview/" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
Make sure to check the monochromatic video down below as Salomon and his crew take over an abandoned section of NYC while rapping ruthlessly about self preservation and loyalty for his camp. Don&#8217;t sleep on one of New York&#8217;s most prominent MC&#8217;s ready to cause tidal waves of buzz in 2015. Also check out his most recent feature off of <strong>Ratking</strong>&#8216;s debut album &#8220;So It Goes&#8221; on the record &#8220;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZDmz919v_M" target="_blank">Take</a>&#8220;.</p>

<p>The self-proclaimed &#8220;saddest out,&#8221; <strong>Little Pain</strong> is back at it with &#8220;Pain Killers<em>.&#8221; </em>The track features a lo-fi, new New York style production from frequent <b>Vic Mensa </b>collaborator, <strong>Michael Uzowuru. </strong>The beat is cleverly complimented with unusual sentiments from some of hip-hop&#8217;s best off-kilter MC&#8217;s, featuring angsty musings involving suicide and loneliness with a mordant twist. The track features <strong>Wiki </strong>of <strong>Ratking, Lofty 305, </strong><strong>Kool A.D. </strong>formerly of <strong>Das Racist, </strong>and <strong>Antwon.</strong> Little Pain maintains his style of a depressed MC seeking sympathy with clever lines such as &#8220;Bad bitches say I&#8217;m broke /  but my grandma thinks I&#8217;m swell.&#8221; It&#8217;s good to hear Wiki&#8217;s frenetic style next to Antwon&#8217;s deep voice again since the former released <strong><em>Metro Nome</em></strong> over the summer. Listen to the track. If you don&#8217;t, at least check Little Pain out on twitter @PainDaThug.</p>

One surprise was the crowd: it was huge. The scrappy NY trio has sure gained a following and a spotlight in the recent months, but even they surely were surprised by the sardine-level crowd for them underneath Governors Ball&#8217;s Gotham stage. As with most other things, though, it seemed as though <strong>Wiki</strong>, <strong>Hak</strong>, and <strong>Sporting</strong> <strong>Life</strong> couldn&#8217;t give a fuck about the crowd&#8217;s presence or notions of what they&#8217;d be seeing, as they were perfectly comfortable rocking out with some of their more sprawling songs. Most notably, they unfurled the entirety of their LP&#8217;s title track and it&#8217;s five-plus minutes of jagged density.</p>
<p><a href="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-08-at-1.30.38-PM.png"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="76541" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2014/06/governors-ball-ratking-photos-review/screen-shot-2014-06-08-at-1-30-38-pm/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-08-at-1.30.38-PM.png?fit=451%2C676&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="451,676" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="ratking gov ball" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-08-at-1.30.38-PM.png?fit=451%2C676&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-08-at-1.30.38-PM.png?fit=451%2C676&amp;ssl=1" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-76541" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-08-at-1.30.38-PM.png?resize=451%2C676" alt="ratking gov ball" width="451" height="676" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a>Though that choice to stretch and ramble no doubt came as a surprise to the miniature attention spans of hip-hop fans (who are normally fed abbreviated versions of each and every song at live shows), it was kept afloat by the pure musicianship of the band. Wiki&#8217;s rapping was unimpeachable; a sublimely executed barrage of rhymes as layered and thick as an <a href="http://www.conceptoradio.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/ratking-so-it-goes.jpg">NYC roadmap</a>. So was his energy: half our shots of the wild man show him with the microphone <em>inside</em> his mouth, as his combined flailing and screaming appear to lead his energy to literally eat the music. Sporting Life was formidable as well, dutifully banging away on drum pads and a machine with the mathematic focus he&#8217;s <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/apr/12/ratking-rap-culture-of-punk">known for</a>. Hak played a solid straight-man to Wiki&#8217;s Tazmanian Stooge.</p>
<p><a href="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-08-at-1.30.50-PM.png"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="76540" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2014/06/governors-ball-ratking-photos-review/screen-shot-2014-06-08-at-1-30-50-pm/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-08-at-1.30.50-PM.png?fit=1008%2C677&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="1008,677" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="ratking gov ball" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-08-at-1.30.50-PM.png?fit=1008%2C677&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-08-at-1.30.50-PM.png?fit=640%2C430&amp;ssl=1" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-76540" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Screen-Shot-2014-06-08-at-1.30.50-PM-640x429.png?resize=640%2C429" alt="ratking gov ball" width="640" height="429" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a>The full sound was matched by a full stage: in addition to the aforementioned trio, the band was fleshed out by a corny-looking and sharp-playing saxophonist, as well as <strong>DJ Dog Dick</strong>. All of this is not to mention the potent Native American imagery projected behind the entire affair. It was a lot to look at&#8211;almost distracting, as Wiki and Hak stood far apart, leaving a physical vacancy for the music to fill in center stage. Wiki had no problem drawing some attention, cheers, murmurs, and blood, though, when the time was right: whereas most rappers would punctuate a bar with an adlib, the young scruffball popped the microphone against his forehead in a one-two flash, eventually leaving his face with a red stripe or two. Out of nowhere&#8211;the presence and essence of Ratking.</p>

The song is a fluid assemblage of disparate sounds: a stream of opaque rhymes from <strong>Wiki</strong>, a high-pitched sample, overwhelmingly loud synths, schizophrenic percussion. No element of the song is individually discernible; the track rolls on as one unit, one experience. The best part of the song is the moment toward the end when additional vocals begin to overlap, like relay racers colliding as they leave their lanes.</p>
<p>&#8220;Canal&#8221; is a a strange beast,  but attempting to tame it isn&#8217;t the right approach. Instead, you have to become a beast yourself, embracing the song&#8217;s formlessness and losing your own form as well.
