Brooklyn spitter K. Gaines and producer Maxwell Benson inks new deal with Priority/Captiol Records on highly anticipated EP “Ticket to Elsewhere.”  The EP serves as a puzzle piece in a much broader arch of works K. Gaines plans to release over the course of 2017/2018 including subsequent EPs. Each installment will showcase musical styles from distinct regions of the US with feature producers from each region.

Ticket To Elsewhere will push the envelope in hip hop over the course of seven tracks. From the socio – politically charged jungle ruckus of “Riot Gear” to the clever tales of “Glass Ceilings” (featuring Sebastian Marciano from Stereo Off) and major feature with Ras Kass. Ticket To Elsewhere also features work by up and coming Los Angeles visual artist Reef Kills. The artwork for each EP in the series, will form a more intricate visual piece with all the purpose and intention of a map.

“What we have is a beautiful conceptual arc,” K. Gaines tells RESPECT Magazine.

“When we blend our sounds, subject matter, and flows, what we are giving you is a ticket to somewhere else. Each EP is a puzzle piece to a different region. ”

 

Benson adds:

“We’re not chasing the crowd with this one, it’s an art piece. Not everybody’s gonna get where we‘re going, but we can leave a map in case they want to catch up.”

Prepping for his official BET performance tomorrow in Los Angeles,  Chicago’s The Boy Illinois drops his highly anticipated video, “Dancing Like Diddy.”

The Boy Illinois comes full blazing with a colorful 90’s feel visual fused with a Chicago edge. The concept of Dancing Like Diddy was inspired by The Boy Illinois mentor & Big Bro Lupe Fiasco after a bar from another single “Ruling Class.” The video kicks off with “Illi” riding through the city spreading love and bending blocks. From the clear sky to the 1-2 step, Dancing Like Diddy video paints a picture of fun, positivity and great music.

Throughout the visual, the colors contrast creating vivid engagement from recreating “Mo Money, Mo Problems,” video,  Illi white shoes and colorful balls rocking to the bass. Stating his claim from the jump, “Dancing Like Diddy” is set to reach the masses.

The Boy Illinois has been progressing over the years. On a recent conversation on Scoop B Radio Overtime, The Boy Illinois and I talked about how cool it was to open up concerts for fellow Chicago lyricist, Lupe Fiasco. “It was amazing,” The Boy Illinois told me about opening for Lupe Fiasco on Scoop B Radio.

“First of all, that’s one of my favorite artists. It was dope because he is one of my favorite artists and it was like: ‘damn I’m about to open up the whole tour for this guy.’ And you just soak up game. Like the first show in Atlanta, I just sat and watched his whole set up and sound check like I was just amazed. I had never been at a level of this magnitude. So I’m trying to learn everything that I can but then after like the 10th show it was like: ‘I don’t even want to see your show no more because it’s the same shit every night.’ But after a while you kind of get the hang of it and I’m a quick learner and I pick up things quick.”
