Leave it to the veteran emcees to set a new standard for freestyles in 2018. When many were getting lackadaisical (or downright trash) on the microphone, The Roots‘ frontman Black Thought decided to shake the earth with a 10-minute-long onslaught of bars for the viewers during a visit to Funkmaster Flex. Everyone knew it would be rather impossible to top what took place that day…and then, this:

That’s Royce Da 5’9″ (along with PRhyme partner-in-crime DJ Premier) proceeding to take — no, dismantle the top spot with some of the most insane bars I’ve ever heard over 11 minutes. Here’s a few that stand out:

This is not a drill — Royce 5’9 and DJ Premier have announced that they are ready to bring us PRhyme 2, three years after its well-received predecessor. First, the dynamic Hip-Hop duo deliver a new single titled “Era,” which features assistance from current New York frontrunner Dave East. As expected, bars.

One of 2014’s most respected Hip-Hop collaborations PRhyme come together to bring us a new visual off their self-titled LP PRhyme. In their video for “PRhyme Time,” the duo is seen paying homage to the golden age of Hip-Hop, the 90’s. DJ Premier and Royce Da 5’9 turn back the hands of time and find themselves in a studio before coming back to reality. Royce Da 5’9″ and DJ Premier are a few weeks out from dropping their anticipated PRHYME album and now we have the first part of their documentary, narrated by Bun B. The 6 minute clip showcases both artists in their respective cities, dealing with life outside the studio. It starts off with a particularly compelling image of the now sober Royce blowing into a breathalyzer in his car.

PRHYME arrives on the suddenly crowded date of December 9, along with Lil Wayne’s Carter V and J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive. You can pre-order it here.
