Premier: Jace Abstract & Robin Da Landlord Travel Back In Time On ‘Rockstalgia’ (EP)

Jace Abstract and Robin Da Landlord travel back in time with their ‘Rockstalgia’ EP. Abstract and Landlord have an adoration for the 90’s sound, and ‘Rockstalgia’ is a sonic representation of the vibe they’re curating. ‘Rockstalgia’ is a 6-track collection where the two European creatives (Jace from Switzerland and Robin from the Netherlands) embody a retrospective take on Hip-Hop; somewhat of a musical time machine that transplants the listener to a specific era, that era prophetically being the 90’s. Robin Da Landlord’s Boom-Bap aesthetic on record has a grass-roots feel to it, capturing the essence of the rhyme and doing so in a manner that translates an older, seemingly forgotten sound to todays market. Jace Abstract’s hard-knocking punchlines and wordplay lend way to a deeper, more emotionally contextual sound. Cuts like ‘Sin City,’ ‘Mad World’ and ‘Think Back’ act as insightful narratives, where tracks like ‘Listen‘ and ‘One‘ are more lyrical exercises, emphatically delivered bars allowing Jace to lyrically flex on record. Dropping on Below System Records, ‘Rockstalgia’ is a modern day revival of an antiquated sound lost in the pages of rap history. The producer/rhymer paradigm created by these two European hopefuls is evident in the fact that the music is not only moving, but also reminiscent of a time where it was lyrics above all else. Detroit’s Red Pill puts together a lyrical exercise on his complex new single “90s Money.” As a crew and label, Mello Music Group is always rhymes and message above all else; Red Pill continues that run on “90s Money” (as heard on the HBO’s hilarious oringinal show, “Silicon Valley”) with up-tempo, Jazz-like production from Alex Goose and intricately placed rhyme structures that are signature to the Mello sound. Off his upcoming “Day Drunk” EP, (slated to release 11.27) “90s Money” is a sonic throwback to Hip-Hop’s proverbial “Golden Era,” allowing Pill’s flow and writing to shine, while re-introducing a conventional rap sound to a new generation. L.A. producer Beatnick Dee drops a colorful visual for “Ketchup & Mustard.” Off his producer album “Creative Medicine,” Dee grabs lyrical help from Cashus King as the two create an homage to the West Coast. K&M (Dir. by Ryan Calavano) is reminiscent of an early 90’s west, capturing the true essence of the region and pushing it forward, while still recognizing it’s long standing impact in Hip-Hop culture.
