Desiigner – L.O.D.

I think we’ve been waiting for Desiigner‘s L.O.D. (Life OF Desiigner) to make landfall for a while now. What was expected to be an official debut album is now a (surprise) 7-track EP that sees the legendary Mike Dean as executive producer. Nonetheless, the turn-up continues for the Brooklyn emcee…check that out below, along with visuals for “Priice Tag” and “Tonka.”

Preme – Light Of Day

Another L.O.D. project sees the light of day (see what I did there?). My own corniness aside, Canadian star Preme delivers his new album titled Light Of Day, which comes with 15 tracks and appearances from Lil Wayne, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Offset, Post Malone, Murda Beatz, DJ Mustard, Ty Dolla $ign and YG. Somewhat surprisingly, OVO boss and close friend Drake doesn’t show up on the tracklisting.

Blocboy JB – Simi

Much in part thanks to Drake, Memphis star Blocboy JB has been sailing in the commercial realm thanks to tracks like “Look Alive,” A$AP Rocky‘s “Bad Company,” “Rover 2.0” (with 21 Savage) and more. Now, he delivers his new project Simi, named after a fallen friend that passed away on Mother’s Day.

In addition to the aforementioned, the 18-track project also sees appearances from YG, Lil Pump and Moneybagg Yo…in addition to the album below, you can also check out a new visual for “No Chorus Pt. 11.”

Styles P – G-Host

Following the slept-on Nickel Bag EP, legendary LOX member Styles P delivers a brand new album titled G-Host, his first since 2015’s A Wise Guy and A Wise Guy. Additional appearances include Oswin Benjamin, Nino Man, Scram Jones and more.

Rae Sremmurd – SR3MM

This is probably the biggest release for the weekend. Not only did Rae Sremmurd deliver a dope new project as a group, they also delivered as solo projects: Swae Lee brought the Swaecation while Jxmmi gave us Jxmtro.

Royce Da 5’9″ – Book Of Ryan

Royce Da 5’9″ delivers the Book of Ryan.

If you’re a Royce Da 5’9″ fan, you really don’t have anything to complain about. Not only did he just recently drop off the second installment of PRhyme alongside DJ Premier, he’s also blessed the masses with a new album of his own titled Book Of Ryan. In addition to the bars (and this being his most personal project to date), additional appearances include Eminem, Boogie, J. Cole (“Boblo Boat”), Pusha T, Jadakiss, Fabolous, Marsha Ambrosius and more. Press play below.

Curren$y

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of seeing a lot of creative artists perform live at the Fillmore for AMC’s Bodega in Charlotte, NC. The hip hop festival brought out a range of acts like Rashaun Hampton, Brio Ankh, 2chea The Zombie, Baby Jesus, Preme, YB, James Malik, Shac from da 3, Mar Reynolds, and even Bankroll Bird (who’s“True Story” video was recently posted on WSHH ).

These rappers didn’t just rap their singles and get off stage, but they actually PERFORMED. Whether it was jumping on stage with their supporters, sharing wise words, telling a story behind their name, or getting off stage with their mic to go into the audience, they did just that.  While watching them on stage, you could tell it was all just love. Even when each performer was done, they stayed on stage with their same exact energy to pass along to the next artist. Even though they all come from similar areas of Charlotte, no one’s sound or message was the same and that’s what made each artist stand out from the next . Rather you were familiar with their sound or not, they made sure that you would remember them for one thing if not another. After hours of multiple performances, the moment that everyone had been anticipating finally came. Curren$y was finally in the building and ready to shut down the festival performing singles like “Smoke Sumthin”, “Sixty-Seven Turbo Jet”, “ A Lil’ Sumthin”, “Elevator Musik” ,and more.

While doing his thang on the mic, he didn’t shy away from making a couple jokes in between nor from dedicating one of his songs to one of the audience members who got kicked out for having marijuana in his possession(aka having the ganja on deck). After the show, me and my director went backstage to await for an interview but sadly there was a little miscommunication. Nonetheless Curren$y, his management (Sam and Mousa) were great people and without them, witnessing a great performance wouldn’t have been possible. Hopefully we’ll continue to witness more greatness coming from Curren$y (*cough cough* and an interview sometime soon) as well as out of the “New Atlanta”, Charlotte.
