Mo’Nique was not here for the slander when it comes to her request for the boycott of Netflix based on what she alleges as gender, age, and racial bias.

On Friday (Feb 23), Mo’Nique appeared on Power 105.1’s Breakfast Club to speak on racial and gender inequality in Hollywood, she also took time to speak to Charlamagne Tha God regarding him giving her “Donkey of the Day” for her request.

“I want to address you specifically Lenard because I met you before about ten years ago in an elevator and you were very nice and respectfully so for you to give me donkey of the day, I was confused and wanted to make sure that I spoke to you personally and not through anyone else.”

In regards to her issue with Netflix, Mo’Nique states that she felt that she was overlooked not only because she is a Black woman but also because of her age.

“When we started the negotiations, we started positive and they were praising me letting me know that I was a legend, then suddenly the call dropped and no one bothered to call us back. We received a call asking why we hadn’t responded to an offer that we never received and when we did receive it; it was far less than someone with my resume should be paid.”

Not one to back down, Charlamagne explained why he gave her the hilarious title for the week following her original announcement and continued to inquire as to why she felt her instance with Netflix wasn’t isolated.

“To me, it sounds like an isolated incident because when you have Black women like Ava Duvarney who received millions and deals for multiple projects, maybe it’s just they don’t see the value in paying you that much. What can you provide to show them otherwise? Amy Schumer, although I don’t think she’s funny, has numbers she sold out arenas. Dave Chappelle did 1500 shows all of which sold out and Chris Rock is selling out arenas and you’re still talking about Queens of Comedy from 15 years ago.”

Although Charlamagne was making great points, the Golden Globe awarded comedienne was not impressed and before leaving at the end of the interview compared Charlamagne to the man who led his wife to the slave master in the film Birth of a Nation.

“You know what, brotha? You’re going to hear yourself a lot from me lately. You’re going to hear yourself around the world. We have to explain brothas like you, we do. And, when we watched that movie Birth of a Nation and we saw that man walk his wife into that master’s house, we watched him walk his wife in. Then we watched him go back and get ’em— you’re that brotha.”

Check out the tense interview below.

Harlem, NY bred and globally influenced, Calligrafist actually didn’t aspire to be a photographer. In fact, he fell in love with the art of graffiti and calligraphy; hence the nickname, ‘Calligrafist.’

A man of faith, the devout Muslim is college educated at Jamia Madinatul Uloom University in Trinidad & Tobago, where he studied Quranic Studies and Arabic reading and writing.

Calligrafist acknowledges seasoned hip hop photographers like Johnny Nunez and Jonathan Mannion who have undoubtedly paved the way for on-the rise photographers such as himself. Calligrafist emphasizes that he’s glad to sit at the table with them and eat, while also gaining their respect for his skin in the game. “It’s genuinely cool to have intimate conversations with them,” he said.

“It’s more humbling that I am able to have direct access to people that I look up to like them and someone like Lenny S., DJ Clark Kent, Emory Jones, that have a name in the industry, people that have a place in the culture, for people to acknowledge me for more my work; that’s an honor. That’s more humbling. But it moves me to want to do more.”

Tory Lanez stopped by The Breakfast Club with Charlamagne and Co. to discuss everything from “Say It,” Toronto music, the best cities for (clears throat) sexual interactions, and well, Drake. Like, a lot of Drake. Despite his recent success with radio and touring, what most fail to realize is Tory has been releasing consistently good music for years, writing for other artists, and arguably helping usher in one of the most popular sounds in the culture; “Swavey” as he coined it. While the interview managed to venture down multiple rabbit holes, he handled the whole experience like a true, seasoned artist, because that’s exactly what he is.

It’s officially Meek season. From dropping a 10-minute freestyle on Sway In The Morning to performing at the BET Awards, Meek Mill is in full promo mode for his latest effort Dreams Worth More Than Money.

On July 1, Meek stopped by Power 105 to chop it up with the voice of New York, Angie Martinez. During his sit down with Angie, Meek openly discussed his thoughts on rap’s two most acclaimed artists – J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar.

“I don’t listen to J. Cole and I don’t listen to Kendrick”, the Philly rapper said.

“I think that they’re dope lyricists and they’re like great rappers, but they don’t inspire me. It don’t seem like they be talking to me. And, that ain’t no hate at all.”

Meek also went on to add that he isn’t a fan of much of today’s music. So, who’s music does inspire the 28-year-old dream chaser? Well, none other than Future Hendrix.

“Keep it real, I don’t even listen to nobody—I listen to Future,” Meek said. He also added Dej Loaf, Young Thug, and, “OGs like Jay Z,” to the list of artists who make the cut for his driving playlist.

You can catch Meek’s full interview with Angie Martinez below and watch him candidly answer her flurry of OMeeka questions.

The airwaves were stunned yesterday when Hot 97’s Angie Martinez announced that it would be her last day at the station after over 20 years. The speculations began right away about where Angie would go next, and what new endeavors she would be taking on. All those questions have been answered in a press release this morning from Clear Channel which states that Angie Martinez will be making the switch to Power 105 and The Beat in Miami beginning in July. The Mitchem, the SVP of Programming released a statement about the move:

“Angie is the Queen of New York City radio – she is an incredible talent who continues to blaze trails and we are excited to have her join the team at Power 105.1 and The Beat in Miami,” said Thea Mitchem, Senior Vice President of Programming – Major Markets, Clear Channel Media and Entertainment. Angie has a long, successful history and we look forward to expanding her distinctive style and compelling content to more of our listeners.”

Angie Martinez will take the 2-6 time slot and DJ Prostyle will move up to the 10-2 slot right after The Breakfast Club. This news could be shocking to a few due to the constant battle between Hot 97 and Power 105. Fans quickly flooded Ebro’s Twitter after the news was released but the love that Hot 97 has for Angie is so immense and there appears to be no saltiness with the move.
