While New Haven, Conn.’s Political Animals have been steadily growing a regional fan base over the years, they’re about to make noise on the national scene with their ridiculously dope new video for “Who Want What.”

The visuals from director Shane McLellan veer toward the realm of psychedelia, especially when they center on the group’s front-man, Sotorios Fedeli. His rapping, which is sharp on its own, is made that much more engrossing through the lens of McLellan, who allows Fedeli to defy gravity through the magic of crazy editing and stop-motion work.

His band mates receive equal attention in this video of mind-f*ckery, with bassist Jen Harper, drummer Trenton Wright, and sample-maven DJ Neb floating through dimly lit hallways and disappearing at a moment’s notice. It’s all suits the music of “Who Want What,” which itself floats between genre lines with hints of funk and rock (though it’s anchored by Hip-Hop).

With a huge void in Hip-Hop bands, a genre essentially conquered by the legendary Roots crew, and the lesser known but profoundly talented Dujeous, PACT need to stay the course and continue to release groundbreaking content. Who knows, maybe one day sooner than later they’ll get the call to be the house band for Jimmy Kimmel, or Stephen Colbert. I for one would have no objections to a bit more funk and soul in my late night television.
