It seems as though these unapologetically black sentiments that we have been experiencing are just going to come on stronger and stronger. On the tails of Beyonce’s controversial, depending on who you ask, performance and Kendrick Lamar’s impeccable Grammy blowout including 5 grammy wins, things are getting even better this Black History Month. Tonight a 2 hour long documentary will air on PBS exploring The Black Panther Party. And this my friends is how you celebrate Black History Month!

I’m not sure if this is just a coincidence, shortly after recent buzz from Beyonce’s Super Bowl 50 halftime performance starring herself as Beyonce and her dancers as female members of the Black Panther Party, or just a case bomb PR people at their best but either way I’m all for it. Executive produced by Emmy-Award winning documentary filmmaker, Stanley Nelson, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution airs tonight on PBS to shed some light on the pivotal impact that the Black Panther Party has made in both Black and American Society.

With the rise of the #BlackLivesMatter movement and black social and political awakening as a whole, this documentary has come right on time to showcase the movement that grandfathered it all. With it’s recent rise in popularity due to pop culture references, I predict that many of those us who wouldn’t usually tune into something of this documentary’s nature will tonight just to have our curiosities sated.

Now, this is the kind of “reality TV” that we need to tune into every once and a while.

Will you be tuning into ‘The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution’ airing tonight?

Kendrick Lamar is not the kind of artist that any audience can watch live. If you haven’t see him live, you can watch him from the comfort of your home on television this weekend. Lamar recently performed hit singles from his Grammy-nominated album, To Pimp a Butterfly, on the PBS popular concert series, Austin City Limits.

The Top Dawg Entertainment executive moves the crowd with his poetic rhymes. Lamar kicks off the show with his single, “i;” the selection is quite appropriate for the venue and the audience. The crowd recites lines in unison and “turn up” with the beloved rap star.

The song “i” may give the people a vibe to empower, but “Wesley’s Theory” is Lamar taking the leadership role of traditional lyricist with the crowd wrapped around his finger and hanging on to his every word. The third song, “Hood Politics,” shows the 28-year-old rapper in a more serious performance in comparison to the other tunes.

Watch Kendrick Lamar perform “i,” “Wesley’s Theory,” and “Hood Politics” on Austin City Limits below. Feel free to leave comments.

As 2Pac breaks down the way in which history made him the man he was and the fame machine had begun to suck him dry, we are given images both funny and poignant, helping to highlight the many drastic and far reaching directions that a conversation as short as five minutes could go with a man as whole-heartedly invested in what he was saying as 2Pac was. Enjoy the clip below.
