Danny Brown‘s ability to oscillate between a high-pitched nasal voice and a throaty snarl landed him the title of “The Hybrid.” This oscillation appeared to have ceased in the past year or so, with Danny more frequently adopting the nasal approach for debauched dance and drug anthems, but “Side A” brings that old snarl to life, along with the conditions that bred it. Rapping over a weighted and frenetic Paul White instrumental, Danny takes us to his old haunts, reminding us of the  crime, despair and ugly coats of paint that characterized his life merely a few years ago. Give it up for Danny Brown for turning a video of him spitting in front of a camera into an acid trip. In his new video for “ODB,” Brown is subject to an army of colorful visual effects reshaping his face. The track is based on a psychedelic and haunting beat produced by Paul White and the title of the track refers to Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Director/animator Ruff Mercy successfully capture Brown‘s energy and the vibe of the track. Check it out:

The song itself is reminiscent of the song “Zap,” from Danny‘s collaboration with Black Milk.

Next month, UK based producer Paul White, will be releasing his new EP Watch The Ants.  The project will feature collaborations with Sean Price, Homeboy Sandman, Danny Brown and Trim, and is said to be some of White’s best production to date.  Before the full EP drops, White is offering the title track, “Watch The Ants.”  For the video, White recruited Plastic Horse.  Make sure to save the date for Watch the Ants’ release date, which is set for the end of July (July 28 or 29th). In March, UK-based producer Paul White released his new track “Street Lights” featuring the animated MC Danny Brown. Now the pair are finally giving us the video in the form of the animated treatment courtesy Plastic Horse.

UK Producer Paul White, who produced three tracks on Detroit bred MC Danny Brown’s breakthrough album XXX, is once again working with the rapper for the majority of his upcoming album Old. On “Street Lights,” Brown speaks to the poverty and neglect experienced in Detroit over pounding war drums, strings and a choir. White will be releasing his own solo Watch The Ants EP this summer.
