Ray Medixi

For many people in the Empire State, the name Ray Medixi may be familiar. For others, it would be believable if it wasn’t. Over the last few years,  Medixi has stayed under the radar. We’ve heard him on songs with a multitude of R&B vocalists, sell out venues like the legendary SOB’s and open up shows for billboard charting artists like Serani. We’ve also heard him cover songs from The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran but we haven’t gotten much from him alone.

Who is Ray Medixi besides one of New York City’s own? He is one of the brightest up-and-coming artists in New York and you’ll see him sooner than later. A little over a week ago, Ray Medixi released an dark pop song called “Sunfall” which seems to ride off of the success of his trap-fused R&B single “Heaven Sent” which was released last October following the collaborative work he did with multi-platinum producers Chef Pasquale and Dez Wright most notably known for their work with Drake and Partynextdoor on the More Life and Dark Lane Demo projects. “Sunfall” was produced by the London producer Certified Beats. “I would simply describe my music as a new refreshing and different sound. A lot of people start making music and just make catchy stuff, they want that HIT record that’s going to blow them up so that’s the type of sound you get. With every record I do I let the beat breathe so people can truly feel it then put my vocals on it to complete a story”.

5IVE’s look and all around vibe is a great addition to the Trap Soul genre. His ability to maintain a professional career in the NFL and have major-label ready musical product ready already, he’s not only a viable new contender in the resurging Trap Soul genre, but also a Deion Sanders-like mutant that can unlock new levels of cultural identity. His uncanny ability to rev up his audience for what is to come from him in the future is one of his strong traits as he went live with Férina head honcho PartyNextDoor recently to seal his co-sign. Production credits include Batmanonthebeatz, Nxghts, Ashton Mccreight and Emoney.

Here’s a track to add to your playlists. One or two years ago, a Quavo, PARTYNEXTDOOR and Murda Beatz collaboration titled “More” surfaced; last week, a new version of the track made landfall that features Lil Wayne. Whether this is a fresh new remix or an alternate version from that time isn’t yet known (this lyric sounds recent, though)…either way, I suspect we’ll be hearing more Weezy moving forward. So, if you missed the news: Director X is bringing a remake of the classic blaxploitation film Superfly to theatres:

Adding to the mix is Future, who is curating the film’s soundtrack (an interesting progression from Curtis Mayfield, who did the original). Today, we get to check out a track from said compilation titled “No Shame,” which sees the Freebandz boss linking up with OVO’s PARTYNEXTDOOR. Check it out below.

Why not? Canadian frontrunners PARTYNEXTDOOR and Tory Lanez have been killing it on the solo front: PND with his Seven Days project and Tory Lanez with appetizers leading up to Memories Don’t Die. This week, the two come together as collaborators on a couple of very dope tracks.

Below lies “More Than Friends” and “Leaning,” both clearly geared toward the ladies. Could these two join their peers and drop a surprise project together?

PARTYNEXTDOOR continues to bless his fans with new music. Following Colours 2 comes a new EP titled Seven Days, a 7-track (get it?) offering that features appearances from Rick Ross and Halsey. The Canadian star had been spending the week revealing the project song-by-song.

Wiz Khalifa and PARTYNEXTDOOR make it “Rain.” The Taylor Gang rapper and OVO artist join forces on their Sledgren and Cardo-produced banger.

The song finds Wiz rapping about his tattoos, his money and his homie PND. “Young Khalifa, tatted to the collar, my ni**a,” he raps. “She swallow a ni**a ’cause my dollars is bigga / And you know Party my ni**a.”

PND also keeps the subject matter about being rich. “I made it rain,” he sings. “Like a hurricane / I made it rain.”

Sledgren sent out a tweet saying this song was made before “All The Way Up”; when you hear “Rain,” you can hear a sample from Fat Joe and Remy Ma‘s track.
