Good News Pandora fans!

You will now be able to pick and choose your own songs. I’ve always been a huge fan of Pandora due to the fact that I can listen to music all day – nonstop – and while I wasn’t able to pick the specific songs of my choice at the time, it was great that I could enter in the artist of my choice and have all artists from that genre be played. I also liked doing the small interactive challenges that, if completed, allowed you to listen to non-stop music for up to 4 hours. Now that was nice; who wants to listen to commercials?

Pandora is upping its game to compete with such other internet savvy music streams such as Spotify and Tidal by putting the wheel in your hand and steer in your own direction- of song choices that is. From the media site Forbes: “the internet-radio service may offer two new paid tiers with on-demand music as soon as next month, while Pandora does not allow users to pick the songs of their choice right now.” Users will be delighted to know that they will be able to load up the latest Beyonce or Drake album and hear the whole album without listening to 5 other different songs prior to theirs.

Pandora had never needed permission from record labels in the past to play their music due to the fact that it operates like a radio station instead of an “on-demand” service, but that will soon change as Pandora is now negotiating deals with the labels in order to offer the “on-demand” option for play-time in the U.S. and overseas. Pandora CEO Tim Westergren responded:

 The company had planned to debut an on-demand option in the second half of this year during the company’s Q2 earnings call last month.

This new feat could actually be a great thing for Pandora, who has seen a dwindling user base in recent quarters. Since the news broke of the change, the company’s stock increased by 3%. Seems like Pandora has made a great choice in expanding their base, let’s hope this increase remains.

Mobb Deep‘s eighth studio album, The Infamous Mobb Deep, isn’t officially dropping until April 1st. However, Prodigy and Havoc have taken to Pandora to offer fans a free stream of the double album a week before it becomes available for purchase. The Infamous Mobb Deep consists of new material on the first disc and unreleased music from their critically-acclaimed sophomore LP The Infamous on the second. As certified veterans with ironclad credibility in the rap game, the Queens MCs recruited a number of high profile guest features for the first album, including Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Nas, Bun B and Juicy J. And, from what we have heard of the new material so far, neither half of the legendary duo has lost much of a step over the past 20 years.
