From the opening line (“They throw dirt on my name ‘til they throw dirt on my casket”) to the all-too-familiar visual shots of the young men shooting dice on a street corner, Hadish, Boston’s rap elite tells a story atop of a Tye Hill production about himself, in which he shares that he can see through people like windows, not being much of talker, and reaffirming that haters and naysayers don’t want action like Bronson. When asked what it was like to grow up in Boston as a son of Ethiopian immigrants, he replied:

As diverse as my backgrounds were, they made me the person I am today. The things one might have failed to teach me or let me experience, the other did and made up for the loss. Growing up in Boston was tough at times, economically especially, now with the rapid gentrification that’s going on but I still love my city. It taught me my hustle and gave me better opportunities. The Ethiopian aspect humbled me, as well as certain values a lot of “Americans” I feel are missing today. Most importantly, I know my roots and my history.

What are some of the things that inspired “The Clarks”?

The things that that inspired this project were just the ideas and values I was brought up with. “The Clarks” was basically me wanting you to literally walk in my shoes, so you understand why I feel the way I did — as well as try to explain, and give reasonings to why I am who I am.

What it was like, during the filming process. Were you involved in any of the post-production?

My new video “On” was directed by M9visuals, or Matt Arnold; he’s a real good director everybody will get to know. Matt always wants input with who he works with, so a lot of my ideas are implemented within the video but he definitely brings his spark — as well and elevates it to a whole another level. I trust in his expertise with the post-production that it’ll come out looking dope.

What’s next after this release? Any other videos or singles to follow?

After this release, my project “The Clarks” will be coming July 21, as well as more visuals.

Hadish’s new boom bap era influenced third single release “On” comes from the rapper’s forthcoming project titled “The Clarks”. Watch Hadish’s cinematic video for “On” now, which was directed by Matt Arnold (M9 Visuals):
