<p><strong>OJ Da Juiceman</strong> is the latest rapper to link with prized producer<strong> Zaytoven</strong> for a collaborative full-length mixtape. The 14 track <em>Juice Vs. Zay</em> finds the Atlanta representatives combining their talents for a street-oreintated body of work. These two aren&#8217;t new to each other and it shows as their chemistry is displayed through the full listening experience. Juice&#8217;s unique delivery and Zay&#8217;s signature piano laced sound go well together. &#8220;Work My Wrist,&#8221; &#8220;Geeked,&#8221; &#8220;9 To 5,&#8221; and &#8220;Bricks &amp; Bells&#8221; are the best offerings.</p>
<p>In the past year Zay has released collaborative projects with<a href="http://respect-mag.com/2015/01/future-and-zaytoven-to-release-joint-mixtape-beast-mode/"> Future,</a><a href="http://respect-mag.com/2015/04/new-music-og-maco-zaytoven-og-zay-ep/"> OG Maco,</a> and Trouble. Not to mention he has one coming with Bankroll Fresh. Don&#8217;t be surprised if he adds a few more names to the list before the end of the year.</p>
<p>For now, stream <em>Juice Vs Zay</em> below and for more, revisit the former&#8217;s previous mixtape, <em><a href="http://respect-mag.com/2015/05/new-mixtape-oj-da-juiceman-the-realest-ngga-i-know-2/">The Realest N*gga I Know 2.</a></em></p>

<p>90&#8217;s revivalist hip-hop is often trite and contrived, consisting of rappers desperate for creativity who paraphrase freshness from the past without offering anything new.  <strong>Gangsta Boo </strong>and<strong> Beatking&#8217;s </strong>new mixtape <strong><em>Underground Cassette Tape Music </em></strong>is a glaring exception. It incorporates elements from Gangsta Boo&#8217;s past verses with <strong>Three 6 Mafia,</strong> while simultaneously offering fresh perspective relative to our generation of Southern trap music. It&#8217;s a genuine incarnation of <strong>the Dirty South. Beatking</strong> said in a <a href="http://noisey.vice.com/blog/beatking-interview-1014-underground-cassette-tape-music">recent interview with Noisey</a> that &#8220;Underground Cassette Tape Music sounds like some shit you’d be jammin’ from Swishahouse in 1999, from Screw in 1999, or if you was jammin’ DJ Paul and Lord Infamous’ Come to Hell with Me II in 1995.&#8221; Beatking and Gansta Boo enhance the tape with features from artists such as <strong>Danny Brown</strong>, <strong>OJ da Juiceman</strong>, <strong>Paul Wall</strong>, <strong>Daz Dillinger</strong> and <strong>Lil&#8217; Flip</strong>. This is a fantastic tape. Beatking perfectly surmised the style of it when he said &#8220;[his beats on this record] let you know what trap music would sound like before it was called trap and was just hard music.&#8221;</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>It&#8217;s that time again. We&#8217;ve painstakingly picked out the best mixtapes of the past week just for you. You&#8217;re welcome.</p>
<p><strong>Don Linen, </strong><a title="Trillmatic" href="http://www.datpiff.com/Don-Linen-Trillmatic-mixtape.441937.html" target="_blank"><em>Trillmatic</em></a></p>
<p>Smooth production and an even smoother vocal delivery (Linen&#8217;s flow induces Curren$y-like chill-ness) is what drives <em>Trillmatic</em>. The 18 track mixtape remains consistent from beginning to end; Linen effortlessly changes his flow from chopped-and-screwed slowness, to rapid wordplay. And it all works to create an impressive release.</p>
<p>Standout track: &#8220;Always&#8221;</p>
<p><a href="http://respect-mag.com/mixtape-madness-download-the-best-mixtapes-of-the-week/yung_jet_fly_af-front-large/" rel="attachment wp-att-56199"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="56199" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2013/03/mixtape-madness-download-the-best-mixtapes-of-the-week/yung_jet_fly_af-front-large/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Yung_Jet_Fly_Af-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="500,500" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="Yung_Jet_Fly_Af-front-large" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Yung_Jet_Fly_Af-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Yung_Jet_Fly_Af-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-56199" alt="Yung_Jet_Fly_Af-front-large" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Yung_Jet_Fly_Af-front-large.jpg?resize=500%2C500" width="500" height="500" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Yung Jet, </strong><a title="Fly Af" href="http://www.datpiff.com/Yung-Jet-Fly-Af-mixtape.463146.html" target="_blank"><em>Fly Af</em></a></p>
<p>&#8220;I ain&#8217;t even close to my prime you know / I got time to grow.&#8221; It&#8217;s a testament to the 18 year-old rapper&#8217;s already recognized talent. After releasing <em>My first Flight </em>Yung Jet returns with <em>Fly Af</em>, a tape that booms with vigorous boasts and head-bobbing beats. Jet deserves kudos for having a song dedicated to strippers that samples the Yeah Yeah Yeahs&#8217; &#8220;Off With Your Head&#8221; (for real, It&#8217;s great). Jet has an A$AP Rocky-esque delivery to him, but it is not a blatant imitation. Jet&#8217;s still trying to find his voice but he&#8217;s doing a good job so far.</p>
<p>Standout track: &#8220;The Anthem&#8221;</p>
<p><a href="http://respect-mag.com/mixtape-madness-download-the-best-mixtapes-of-the-week/fred_the_godson_contraband-front-large/" rel="attachment wp-att-56202"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="56202" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2013/03/mixtape-madness-download-the-best-mixtapes-of-the-week/fred_the_godson_contraband-front-large/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Fred_The_Godson_Contraband-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="500,500" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="Fred_The_Godson_Contraband-front-large" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Fred_The_Godson_Contraband-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Fred_The_Godson_Contraband-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-56202" alt="Fred_The_Godson_Contraband-front-large" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Fred_The_Godson_Contraband-front-large.jpg?resize=500%2C500" width="500" height="500" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Fred The Godson, </strong><a title="Contraband" href="http://www.datpiff.com/Fred-The-Godson-Contraband-mixtape.452505.html" target="_blank"><em>Contraband</em></a></p>
<p>Fred is <em>very </em>New York and it shows in his latest mixtape, <em>Contraband</em>. Although it starts off slow the tape kicks into high gear with &#8220;The City,&#8221; and rarely loses momentum. Fred has the boasts but it&#8217;s his personal narratives that hit hardest. &#8220;Would&#8217;ve Been&#8221; is motivational without sounding cliche. &#8220;Flow behind them bars / I could&#8217;ve been writing behind them bars.&#8221; Fred has been praised for his rhymes for quite some time and <em>Contraband </em>only reinforces why that is.</p>
<p>Standout track: &#8220;The World Would Keep On&#8221;</p>
<p><a href="http://respect-mag.com/mixtape-madness-download-the-best-mixtapes-of-the-week/travis_porter_mr_porter-front-large/" rel="attachment wp-att-56209"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="56209" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2013/03/mixtape-madness-download-the-best-mixtapes-of-the-week/travis_porter_mr_porter-front-large/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Travis_Porter_Mr_Porter-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="500,500" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="Travis_Porter_Mr_Porter-front-large" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Travis_Porter_Mr_Porter-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Travis_Porter_Mr_Porter-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-56209" alt="Travis_Porter_Mr_Porter-front-large" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Travis_Porter_Mr_Porter-front-large.jpg?resize=500%2C500" width="500" height="500" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Travis Porter, </strong><em><a title="Mr. Porter" href="http://www.datpiff.com/Travis-Porter-Mr-Porter-mixtape.462897.html" target="_blank">Mr. Porter</a></em></p>
<p>Travis &#8220;turnt-up&#8221; Porter. If Porter does not refer to himself as such already, he probably should. <em>Mr. Porter </em>is an onslaught of upbeat, trap-on-trap-on-trap tracks with ridiculously enjoyable hooks (check out &#8220;Wassup&#8221;). Porter also succeeds with laid-back songs like &#8220;Baddest,&#8221; where he showcases his rapid flow. Also, Trinidad James&#8217; ad-lib game is on another level (&#8220;4 My Niggas&#8221;). Porter is strongest in his hooks and his rhymes are adequate enough to drive each song to the end. Not too bad, Mr. Porter.</p>
<p>Standout track: &#8220;9 Outta 10&#8221;</p>
<p><a href="http://respect-mag.com/mixtape-madness-download-the-best-mixtapes-of-the-week/oj_da_juiceman_juice_world_2-front-large/" rel="attachment wp-att-56210"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="56210" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2013/03/mixtape-madness-download-the-best-mixtapes-of-the-week/oj_da_juiceman_juice_world_2-front-large/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/OJ_Da_Juiceman_Juice_World_2-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="500,500" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="OJ_Da_Juiceman_Juice_World_2-front-large" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/OJ_Da_Juiceman_Juice_World_2-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/OJ_Da_Juiceman_Juice_World_2-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-56210" alt="OJ_Da_Juiceman_Juice_World_2-front-large" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/OJ_Da_Juiceman_Juice_World_2-front-large.jpg?resize=500%2C500" width="500" height="500" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a></p>
<p><strong>OJ Da Juiceman, </strong><em><a title="Juice World 2" href="http://www.datpiff.com/OJ-Da-Juiceman-Juice-World-2-mixtape.461870.html" target="_blank">Juice World 2</a></em></p>
<p><em>Juice World 2</em>&#8216;s tape cover foreshadows just how crazy (in a good way) the mixtape is. OJ is essentially the illegitimate cousin of 2 Chainz and Future, due to his over-the-top and lol-inducing hooks (check out &#8220;Life On The Edge&#8221;). His high-pitched inflections contrast the tape&#8217;s production: horror movie synths and spaz-trap hi-hats and bass. Some songs take away from the tape (&#8220;Freestyle&#8221;) but OJ is here to trap and turn up. And <em>Juice World 2 </em>does just that.</p>
<p>Standout track: &#8220;Bandz In Yo Face&#8221;</p>
<p><a href="http://respect-mag.com/mixtape-madness-download-the-best-mixtapes-of-the-week/jayson_lyric_jaysonlyriceverything-front-large/" rel="attachment wp-att-56211"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" data-attachment-id="56211" data-permalink="https://respect-mag.com/2013/03/mixtape-madness-download-the-best-mixtapes-of-the-week/jayson_lyric_jaysonlyriceverything-front-large/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Jayson_Lyric_Jaysonlyriceverything-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="500,500" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}" data-image-title="Jayson_Lyric_Jaysonlyriceverything-front-large" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Jayson_Lyric_Jaysonlyriceverything-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Jayson_Lyric_Jaysonlyriceverything-front-large.jpg?fit=500%2C500&amp;ssl=1" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-56211" alt="Jayson_Lyric_Jaysonlyriceverything-front-large" src="https://i0.wp.com/respect-mag.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Jayson_Lyric_Jaysonlyriceverything-front-large.jpg?resize=500%2C500" width="500" height="500" data-recalc-dims="1" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Jason Lyric, </strong><a title="JaysonLyricEverything" href="http://www.datpiff.com/Jayson-Lyric-JaysonLyricEverything-mixtape.461540.html" target="_blank"><em>JaysonLyricEverything</em></a></p>
<p>For a first mixtape <em>JaysonLyricEverything </em>is really good. Lyric, a Dallas, Texas-based rapper, has potential. He draws from his Texas predecessors (&#8220;Beginning of the N&#8221; could very well be an ode to Mike Jones, especially with its hook) while creating a new sound. At 21 tracks the tape could have been shorter. After &#8220;RepN&#8221; each song loses momentum and takes away from the tape as a whole.</p>
<p>Standout track: &#8220;Champagne Wishes&#8221;</p>

<p><strong>Jae Retch, </strong><em><a title="King Shit" href="http://jaeretchkydd.bandcamp.com/album/king-shit-the-sessions" target="_blank">King Shit: The Sessions</a></em></p>
<p><em></em><em>King Shit </em>is something of a compilation: a 15 track tape that derives from several unreleased Retch mixtapes. Retch can rap and although there are a few awkward tracks on <em>King Shit </em>(&#8220;Lord Have Mercy&#8221; and &#8220;Had It All&#8221;) he makes up for it with songs like, &#8220;Change The Game&#8221; and &#8220;Be A Man.&#8221; (The latter has one of the coolest samples in recent times.) Retch still has room for growth but dude is definitely on to something.</p>
<p>Standout track: &#8220;Change The Game&#8221; feat. Levi Lyric</p>
