Officials haven’t released a cause of death but Menza, who contributed to Megadeth’s biggest albums to date, collapsed late Saturday night at the Baked Potato during the third song of a performance with his new band OHM. Paramedics couldn’t revive him.

Menza’s management confirmed the news with this statement. “Nick collapsed during the third song into a set with his band OHM. Earliest reports indicate he suffered a massive heart attack and was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital.”

J. Marshall Craig, the late drummer’s spokesperson, posted a statement on on Menza’s Facebook page “He died last night on stage in L.A. doing what he loved.”

From 1989 to 1998 and again in 2004, Menza assisted in writing some of the band’s biggest records including “Peace Sells, “But Who’s Buying,” “Rust In Peace,” and “Countdown to Extinction.”

Menza joined OHM last year after they lost its then-drummer David Eagle to heart complications. The band also includes former Megadeth guitarist Chris Poland.

After learning the news of Menza’s death, many turned to social media to express their condolences.

Menza will be missed as he leaves behind his two young boys and their mother Teri.
