Creating a movement, creating thought provoking art and making music that goes with it is how OGK of 3-0 Whop is creating his own lane. Recently releasing a tape entitled SketchBook to go along with his artwork (which is in the gallery), OGK has worked with Mike Doom , GoldLink and more We catch up with the artist and 3-0 Whop Co-Founder to talk about the movement , music and art in his own word.

Respect: What inspires you ?

OGK: My experiences, surroundings and lifestyle play a big role in my artistic inspiration. I can also credit alot of worldwide streetwear fashion and the DMV underground music scene.

Respect:What is 3-0 Whop?

OGK: Three Oh Whop! 3-0Whop! I don’t know where that thirty shit came from. Haha But I’m here to set the record straight that it’s 3-0. 3-0Whop is a creative movement and musical group coming out of 301 PG County, MD that serves as an example and creative outlet for the youth in our area. We put on for those who feel they have no creative outlets or ways to create their own lanes and make their creative ideas reality. Coming up we didn’t have none of that …we were just out here. Whop

Respect: How did it start?

OGK: Back in high school we all used to just say Whop all the time. “I’m bout to fade this next lunch Whop!” “Aye! He stole his ass WHOP” “Whop This” “Whop That”. We all hung out, went to school and basically came up on 301. So one day my cousin LS Jayzus and I were outside just talking about rapping and how i was going to come out the cut with music for our area and how we are going to have the next big movement for the youth. 3-0Whop just came out and it sounded good.

Eventually I told Mike Of Doom and Rezt about the idea and they basically ran with it and made the foundation of the movement and put the Whop on the map while i was in school. Whop also comes from a type of music my homies Banrond and Eyezahuh created back in our early high school days.

Respect: What inspired these pieces?

OGK: Well for “JumpSoots” Its funny because my bro Mike Of Doom had a crazy winter jumpsuit that was orange camo and was vibrant as hell. It looked so wild i ended up painting it for my “BroGK Series 2014” and people liked it. I’ve always loved making my own camo prints so i just challenged myself to create some strong solid pieces with eye-catching color contrast while till making the camo designs differ. As far as the cups well you already know what that’s talking about .

Respect: What do you listen to when you are creating?

OGK: I listen to a mix of Animal Collective, Yung Gleesh, ADTR, 3rdiiiUth, SpaceMob, Richie Spice, Blu, Black Kray…just to name a few.
