]]> 20NVR exemplifies soul on NVR. Hip-Hop seems to be missing the majesty of the group, a longing quest for a collection of artists working as a whole; A reminiscence of a different time and era. NVR is that collection of artists. Consisting of high school friends Kassim, Baptizeee, Hasani, Fayson, and D. Keyz, 20NVR’s debut NVR is an optimal blend of soul-rap and sonic bounce, highlighting the talents and acumen of the group’s individuals. NVR’s 8-track experience documents the prolific growth of five young artists whose bond runs far deeper than music. The project’s opener, “Frendz,” sets the work’s consciously boom-bap tone; a demonstration of lyrical prowess whose subtle, bouncy vibe informs you of the journey for which you are about to embark. Cuts like “Usually” and “Navy Blue” are perfectly-timed, melodic treats, while “Birds,” “Get Ready,” and “Bounce 3” inject the project with that coveted bounce that 20NVR is hoping to become synonymous with. Remember the infusion of soul previously mentioned? It’s that same soul that connects the listener to the music, offering an outlet to the experimentally imaginative, all while creating a sound and signature not congruent with today’s standards. It’s also that very same soul that’s deeply connected five burgeoning Maryland creatives on the path to one common goal, and above all else, a sustainable brotherhood. NVR is a musical risk that pays off in a major way. While we’re undoubtedly in a time where the group is overlooked and undervalued as a whole, 20NVR’s NVR is a whimsical and proverbially positive middle finger to the standard of today’s culture. As 20NVR attempt to redifine popular sound from the youth, NVR is their rhythmic vessel of systemic revision. Who said you can’t mix friends and business?
