We often focus on all the wrong things and find ourselves missing out on the beauty in other people. With his newest track, ‘Mothaland Bounce,’ Nissim Black is teaching us that it’s ok to take a minute to embrace others and their beauty, no matter how different it may be from your own.

‘Mothaland Bounce’ has strong production but the lyrics outshine the beat. As you listen, you hear Nissim rap about how proud he is of his roots and growth and the words remind you to be proud of who you are but also of who others are.

–Let’s dig deeper beyond the surface on ‘Mothaland Bounce.’ Tell us about the meaning behind the song and how you want it to impact listeners?

The main thing was to express that although I’m a Jew, and the majority of the Jew people in the U.S, encounter are white skinned, it shouldn’t be mistaken as the “race” of Judaism. It’s a faith that includes many shades and cultural backgrounds. Nor did I want anyone from the Black community or the Jewish community to think that I’m not proud of my color. I’m very happy in my own skin and where I come from.

–How is ‘Mothaland Bounce’ different from your other tracks?

In every way! I wanted to address that elephant in the room. People see you and have 1000 questions, so I thought I’d make a track that begins to answer what you already want to know. I haven’t been on a track where promoted me to really spit in a while, when my Brother in law, yosef played me this in LA, I knew what time it was.

– From Seattle to Brooklyn to Israel, tell me how these places have impacted your music.

I feel like there are new concepts, thoughts, ideas in the air. I think these items exist in different places in the world, a person will create differently when he breathes in the air of a new place. Because every place has its own unique conversations and issues. The whole world comes to Israel, based on the concept of the air, I feel like my music has become more universal and versatile as a result of being here.

-If you could pick one line from the song that you want listeners to hold on to, which one would it be and why?

“Im in the synagogue/ camouflage/ but I can’t wipe this skin off/ I’m proud of it/ it’s loud a bit/ But I’m not tryna criss cross,” its the line that sums up the whole intent of the song. I’m Proud to be Jewish. I’m proud of my African roots and its no contradiction!
