Drake, one of the biggest names to come out of Toronto’s music scene in years, has received a rare honor for his community influence and charity work. The Young Money rapper will be presented with the 2^nd Annual Allan Slaight Award, which is given to a young Canadian making a positive impact in the fields of music, film, literature, visual or performing arts, sports, innovation or philanthropy.

The award, which will be handed during Canada’s Walk of Fame Awards gala on October 1, includes a $10,000 honorarium from the Slaight Foundation. Drake has decided to donate the reward to Dixon Hall, a community partner’s service that helps create opportunities for people of all ages to dream, to achieve and to live full and rewarding lives in low income neighborhoods around Toronto.

“At 24 years of age, Drake has already achieved what has taken others a lifetime to do. He is kind, smart, talented, philanthropic and driven. He is an inspiring example to all, and we are proud to recognize him this year as our young Canadian making a positive impact,” said Founder of Canada’s Walk of Fame Peter Soumalias, in a press release.

Drake precedes Montreal jazz musician Nikki Yanofsky, who was the first recipient of the Slaight award last year.  The show is scheduled to broadcast on Global and Slate.
