A$AP Rocky tweets after attack in New Zealand hotel elevator. While the life of a celebrity may be overwhelming at times, (no please, tell me how you can’t handle the pressure of fortune and adoration) a rapper’s accessibility adds a whole other piece to the celebrity puzzle. TMZ reported that Flacko was jumped by three men in a New Zealand hotel elevator. Witnesses reported that amidst the attack, Rocky protected the girls who were in the elevator with him, until hotel security eventually broke it up the altercation. While I’m obviously speculating, there had to be more than just terrible judgment and too much “Lord Of The Rings” involved. (Get it? LOTR was filmed in New Zealand – never mind) Nevertheless, the police arrested a 35 year-old New Zealander and Rocky took to Twitter to clear the air in what is obviously the most “I be that pretty muthat fu*ka” type of way. All kidding aside, it’s great news he’s fine and what this shows is not only is everyone susceptible to violence and inexplicable nonsense, but the limelight often times positions people to be more prone to these things, almost creating a target of sorts. Between the music and fashion worlds, the limelight shines heavy on Rakim Mayers. Playing it in my head and hearing the absurdity of the “Fu*k A$AP” chant, all I can hear is “Rocky, Rocky, Rocky.”

New Video: David Dallas feat. Ruby Frost – “The Wire” (prod. Fire & Ice)

For his latest single, New Zealand rapper David Dallas teams up with fellow New Zealand musician Ruby Frost for a stirring reflection on the dangers of meeting your goals and ascending through the ranks. This is an anxiety and an experience encountered by all talented individuals who are recognized for their skills, but Dallas manages to avoid lame generalities and emphasize his particular encounter and his particular response. Ruby Frost engages with Fire & Ice‘s gut-wrenching instrumental a little more closely than Dallas, but the overall result is phenomenal nonetheless. It has a slight twinge of trip-hop to it, but that’s never a bad thing. Watch it below.

New Music: Aaradhna feat. Common – “Wake Up” (Remix)

Kiwi soul singer Aaradhna has linked up with Common for a sprightly remix to her 2012 song, “Wake Up.” Common‘s verse feels slightly appendaged on, but its placement at the beginning of the song gives the track a narrative that it didn’t quite have before, so all is well in the end. Listen below. On the spectrum of things that will definitely get you out of bed, this song lies somewhere between an alarm clock and a dog that really needs to go outside to pee.

The video for the original version is provided below. It’s pretty unique: it features various objects “coming to life” and Aaradhna even does the stanky leg for some reason. Enjoy.
