Up first is “Maintain,” a hard-hitting a hard-hitting but hopeful instrumental featuring both Vursatyl (of Lifesavas) and deejay Red C, which also received an incredible visual component that makes the already-gripping lyrics even more powerful. The animated images are portrayed to resemble how America has depicted black Americans in society, film, and history. Additionally, the video showcases historical black Americans who have made a great impact on our country, society, and will continue to influence our future.

The B-Side, “The Light Goes Out,” is equally impressive and includes an appearance from rising San Fran artist Trailer Limon. As he weaves a gripping narrative about a young man on the brink of ending his life, Brown provides a bluesy backdrop that perfectly fits the tone of Limon’s stirring imagery.

Both tracks are availalble now on one extremely limited edition 7” vinyl, which can be purchased exclusively through his Bandcamp page. To complement the vinyl release, Brown also released his beautifully produced instrumental project, L’appel du Vide. The 20 track project is a deep, sonically rich listen with a scope that goes well beyond its already-dope contents. More than just a beautifully produced collection of instrumentals, the album (whose title translates to “The Call of the Void”) plays out like a Greek tragedy that centers on what happened to America on that fateful November day in 2016.
