Hosted by SiriusXM 90s on 9, the first 90sFEST was met with excitement and pure nostalgia. Taking place this past Saturday, September 12 at 50 Kent in Brooklyn, N.Y., the Nickelodeon, Steve Madden, and Sunny Delight-sponsored event featured activities and performances bound to transport concert-goers back to a time where jelly sandals were high-key in fashion, Zack Morris was bae af, and “Whatever” was the perfect response to all of life’s existential questions.

Featuring performances from Salt n Pepa, Naughty By Nature, Smash Mouth, and more, the fest even brought out such celebs as actress AnnaSophia Robb and entertainment blogger Perez Hilton to help take things back to one of the greatest decades. Footage from 90sFEST will air on SiriusXM 90s on 9 September 19 at 2 P.M. E.T. and again September 20 at 8 P.M. E.T.

It’s been three years to the day that we lost Michael Jackson and his iconic presence is still vividly felt (and, obviously, heard) through his immortal music. As Jackson’s career catapulted, the world watched The King break boundaries and color lines as he transcended music forever.You can bet that almost every artist grew up watching a young MJ, emulating him and his Jackson 5 brothers. You may not even realize it, but your favorite rap songs feature Michael Jackson. Here’s a short list of some of ours:

Nas — In “It Aint Hard to Tell” on his classic album Illmatic, Nas samples Michael Jackson’s 1983 hit “Human Nature.”

Naughty by Nature — The Jersey boys went with the Jackson 5 track “ABC” to loop into their 1991 hit “OPP.”

Notorious B.I.G. — Biggie sampled the Jackson 5 track “I Want You Back” for his song “One More Chance” featured on his 1994 album Ready to Die.

Jay-Z — “Izzo (H.O.V.A.).” Jay-Z set the hip-hop world on fire when he got MJ to come out on stage at Hot 97’s Summer Jam in 2001. Definitely a moment for the hip-hop history books.

Tupac — “Letter 2 My Unborn Child”  snagged a lil’ bit from Jackson’s “Liberian Girl”

Puff Daddy & The Family — “It’s All About the Benjamins” took a hint from the other family and sampled Jackson 5’s “It’s Great to be Here”

LL Cool J — “Hey Lover.” LL wrote a song to a lover using Jackson’s “The Lady in My Life”

Fabolous — Cleverly sampled Michael Jackson’s “I Can’t Help It” on his track “Baby.” Fab even referenced MJ in the track, “I wanna keep it comin like the singles of ‘Thriller’.”

Ice Cube — “You Know How We Do It” sampled Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”

Kanye West — The  adamant  MJ fan sampled Jackson’s “PYT” for his track “Good Life”. If you look closely at the video you can see a pop-up Michael Jackson. And let’s not forget, “got a light skinned friend, look like Michael Jackson. Got a dark skinned friend, look like Michael Jackson.”

The King of Pop is and will forever be hip-hop.

Rush, an Australian photographer with a penchant for black & white, draws from his beginnings as a DJ.  Upon completing his education at the School of Art at the Australian National University, Rush came to the United States to work in Los Angeles.  There he was able to work closely with Hip-Hop and Hollywood related events, which enabled him to publish work on MTV.com and in Rhyme & Reason magazine.  Since then, Rush has circulated his work throughout Australia and the United States in addition to some exposure in Germany and Mexico.  His work with Patrick “Patty” Mills—a well-known Australian star who plays with the NBA’s Portland Trailblazers—in addition to bands such as Bone Thugs & Harmony and Koolism have helped Rush make a name for himself.

Rush’s first solo exhibition is due to open at 6 PM Thursday, June 16th at The Front Gallery in Canberra, Australia.  His “One Shot Polaroid Exhibition” was concocted with the hopes of evoking a sense of spontaneity.  While photographing over a four-month period in Canberra, Sydney and Los Angeles, Rush limited himself to one shot of each subject.  Over 400 Polaroids will be on display, including shots of DEADMAU5, Skrillex, Naughty by Nature and many others.

The exhibit is set to run from June 16^th—June 27^th, 2011.

The weekend leading into Monday, July 4th, 2011, is sure to be a throwback.  The three-day Essence Music Festival kicks off July 1st in New Orleans with headliners Usher, Kanye West and Mary J. Blige topping off the list.  Among the groups set to play are Boyz II Men and Naughty by Nature, two groups who have performed for well over a decade.  Boyz II Men and Naughty by Nature each enjoyed a good deal of success throughout the years, and their old school flow is sure to elicit some positive response from the “Generation Y” contingent.
