Nas‘ name is getting attention again – from our ears and our brains.

Fresh of the release of an early version of “Last N*gga Alive” from 2002’s “God’s Son”
on SoundCloud , Nas is doing in Silicon Valley what Straight Outta Compton is doing Hollywood: brining attention to black culture.

In an interview with Jessica Guyn, USA Today senior technology writer Nas says, “There have been so many products out there for people of color that were not owned by people of color and that matters.”

As owner of QueensBridge Venture Partners, an investment firm out of Los Angeles, Nas has backed companies like Dropbox and Lyft. His focus however, has shifted towards supporting products closer to the black community.

When asked about his recent investment in Walker & Company and partnership with Bevel (led by Silicon Valley giant Tristan Walker), as a brand ambassador for its new electric hair trimmer, he said, “Tristan was recommended by a mutual friend. I was interested in his business and he was interested in me. I listened to him and I was immediately impacted by what he said because the product that he has is something that is close to me. It’s grooming. It’s haircuts. It’s the barbershop in the hood. The barber is somebody who has always been important in all communities but especially the black community. I was just happy to see someone represent that.”

What do you think about Nas’ most recent business venture? Is there something you want to see him invest in? Sound off below.
