With that said, Beacon’s newest single/video, “Call Me Napoleon” is all about being yourself and not having any fear in that. The song is catchy and the video will bring you back in time to when one of the funniest movies of all time came out (don’t @ us).

“Napoleon Dynamite is an awkward movie. We all know that. But somehow Napoleon still stands out as one of the coolest “losers” in the whole film. He is himself even if he doesn’t fit in. For me, that’s what the song is about. I’m going to be myself regardless of if it goes against the grain. I make trap music, lyrical music, and apparently, also music that sounds like it could be in a Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack.” – Beacon Light

The more you learn about Canada’s rap scene, the more you realize just how much good music gets stopped at the border. Luckily, this song and its accompanying video had a successful journey and made it to our inbox without difficulty. Featuring a character and some visual flourishes clearly inspired by Napoleon Dynamite and Wes Anderson, the video for “Everywhere We Go” is a humorous take on Vancouver rapper SonReal’s growing acceptance in the hip-hop community despite some initial hostility.

The song itself has similar themes (of course), but beyond that, SonReal’s flows and melodies are worth noting. He raps about five different ways in one song and it’s not because he’s compelled to by the beat. Listen/take notes below and look for a nice cameo toward the end.
