New Music: Yelawolf – “Light Switch” (prod. DJ Paul)

Yelawolf is back with a DJ Paul-produced track from his upcoming project Black Fall. He’s always embraced his interest in rock (most recently on his Psycho White EP, for instance), but “Light Switch” is a bit left field when you consider the sample: Muse‘s “Uprising.” It was a huge record, but it’s just strange to imagine Yelawolf listening to it. Bill O’Reilly has said that it was one of his favorite records. That’s just a trifle though. People listen to a lot of things for a lot of different reasons.

But back to the topic, Yela delivers, using a notably staccato flow to punctuate his shouts and keep his voice atop the instrumental’s tinny percussions. Although Yelawolf is well-known for rapping fast, he’s just as capable of holding back, jabbing at the track instead of pummeling it. Perhaps that will be his approach to Black Fall. New Video: CharlieRED – “GreenGREED”

Hip-hop/blues duo CharlieRED are readying their new project, MUSE, (the follow-up to their debut EP, Religion) for August 20. Until then, they treat us with some powerful visuals for their single “GreenGREED.” The video builds off the song’s sociopolitical lyrics, delivered passionately by the group’s vocalist Rocki Evans.
