Earlier today [Thursday, July 21], it was reported that Star Trek Beyond actress Zoe Saldana has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. According to People Magazine, this is an illness Saldana’s mother and sister also have. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is a disorder where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland. The body is tricked into believing it is already infected due to difficulty filtering toxins, causing inflammation.

The health scare came after a visit from the doctor. The actress reveals to Net-A-Porter’s The Edit, “I had a great time in my 20s. Then your doctor says you’re losing calcium in your bones. What the f**k is that?! I would hear those conversations with my mom and grandma, thinking I’d never get there. ‘I’m going to live forever!’ But all of a sudden it hits you. I s**t you not, it’s from night to day.”

To combat this illness, she has eliminated diary and gluten from her diet. Her Italian native husband Marco Perego, who recently became a U.S. citizen also supports her by following the same routine. Saldana revealed last year on Facebook she suffered from weak joints and thyroid trouble after giving birth to her now 20-month old twin sons Cy Aridio Perego-Saldana and Bowie Ezio Perego-Saldana.

Despite the health scare, Saldana is still a woman on the go. Her upcoming films include Avatar 2, 3, and 4, I Kill Giants, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Live by Night co-starring Ben Affleck. All film are expected to be released between 2017 – 2022.

With two Golden Globe nominations under “SELMA’s” belt thus far, the one that makes history is the nomination for Best Director. Ava  DuVernay is the first Black women to be honored in the category. There has been two African American directors nominated in the past, Spike Lee ( 1990, Do The Right Thing) and Steven McQueen (2014, 12 Years A Slave). Kid Cudi‘s acting career is beginning to blossom, and one of his goals is to score a film in which he stars. Today, it was announced that Cudi‘s dream will be coming true as he will be making his film scoring debut in the movie James White. The film stars Christopher Abbott as the title character, and Scott Mescudi. The film focuses on Abbott‘s character’s struggle “to take control of his reckless, self-destructive behavior in the face of momentous family challenges.” Cynthia Nixon and Ron Livingston are also apart of the cast.

No release date for the film has been revealed, but we can expect an incredible soundtrack thanks Mr. Rager.

RZA takes another step into the film industry with The Man With the Iron Fists. Written and directed by RZA, it is only fitting that it is a kung fu film. Universal Studios gave him a $20 million dollar budget to complete the film, which has been in talks since 2005.

Starring Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu, the movie sounds epic. Here’s the synopsis:

Since his arrival in China’s Jungle Village, the town’s blacksmith (RZA) has been forced by radical tribal factions to create elaborate tools of destruction. When the clans’ brewing war boils over, the stranger channels an ancient energy to transform himself into a human weapon. As he fights alongside iconic heroes and against soulless villains, one man must harness this power to become savior of his adopted people.

The film’s soundtrack will include new music from The Black Keys, Kanye West, RZA, Wiz Khalifa, and the Wu-Tang Clan. Produced by legendary film director Quentin Tarantino, The Man With the Iron Fists should be dope all around. There is no official release date, but the film will hit theaters some time this year.
