The movie will star Taraji P. Henson as Katherine G. Johnson, Octavia Spenser as Dorothy Vaughan, and Janelle Monáe as Mary Jackson as they work at NASA fighting the gender and racial biases against them. The women being portrayed were key mathematicians and engineers in the space program, though their work had not been widely credited.  According to the NY Times, the movie is to be based on the book written by Margot Lee Shetterly, who knew Ms. Johnson but didn’t know about the extent of her involvement with NASA until her father had mentioned it one day.

Donna Gigliotti offered for the rights to the book after reading Shetterly’s proposal and offered her reasoning for doing so:

For Ms. Gigliotti, the “Hidden Figures” story line had everything and more: the Cold War, the space race, the damages of segregation and racial and gender inequality, all set against the country’s burgeoning civil rights struggles.

Dame Dash and Kanye West are set to executively produce another film together entitled “Too Honorable.” This time they add cast members from the old Roc days, Cam’ron and Oschino Sparks and new blood Murda Mook and Smoke Dza. Cheers to the Dame, Kanye, and the digital revolution.

Christmas has come early with the second official teaser to JJ Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” If you’re a Star Wars fan like I am (no, I don’t dress up opening weekend) which I’m sure the majority of human beings are, Episode VII is a seminal moment for fans of the force. The trailer depicts elements from it’s predecessor, “Return Of The Jedi,” with clips of a crashed Star Destroyer, mangled Darth Vader mask, and a quick shot of Han Solo (yes, Harrison Ford is signed on) telling Chewbacca “We’re Home.” The trailer(s) have offered little insight to the actual plot-line, but spoilers it has revealed are a mix of new and old characters, incredible CGI, an updated and seemingly stronger band of Storm Trooper alliance, picturesque visuals of the Star Wars planets, and a sequential tie-in to the storylines of the previous six episodes. The movie is scheduled for a December 18th premier. Hope to see you in line. (With or without a costume)

André 3000 stars as Jimi Hendrix in the biopic entitled, Jimi: All is By My Side. The film was written and directed by Academy Award-winner John Ridley who was recently acclaimed for 12 Years A Slave. His latest project documents Hendrix‘s life from 1966 to 1967. At the time, Hendrix was a struggling artist on the verge of success. Aesthetically the movie appears to be promising and bright in colors. Judging by the trailer, however, the writing suggests that the tone may at times be corny with one liners such as, “When the power of love takes over the love of power, that’s when things will change.” Viewers might struggle connecting with the story because of that.
