Brittney Mendoza is not the average event coordinator. She launched her company Encore events 5 years ago and balances more than 11 projects a month while being a full-time and single mom to 2 beautiful twin girls. Encore Events started off as a hobby. Mendoza got into event planning because she would complain about how boring events were. She naturally would start spicing up events with her own decor style and floral.

She started off decorating her friends dinners for their birthdays and from there it turned into a lucrative business. To date she has worked with various notable celebrity clients doing birthday parties for Chris Brown‘s daughter and 50 Cent‘s son.  She’s also worked with Jordy C, Desean Jackson and major companies such as Maybelline, Shea Moisture, American Black Film Festival, Ford, Porshe, Naked Wardrobe, Uber and Facebook.

One of her biggest challenges was managing her business while having premature twins. She says the  hardest part of it all is that she didn’t have anyone she knew who was in the same situation. Her babies had to live in the hospital for a few months until they were strong enough to come home. She got through this time by spending my days at the hospital working and documenting my journey.

“Balancing being a mother and an entrepreneur is not easy because people may think your schedule is a little more flexible and truly it’s not. You must work 24/7. Yet it is so rewarding knowing you can create your schedule if need be and not have to ask anyone for permission. It’s fun being a boss but it’s also a lot of work that goes into maintaining all events and client expectations.”

The company is continuing to grow as she is currently transitioning into more Wedding Planning and brand activations/store build outs. She just recently built out the whole store on Melrose for her friends at Naked Wardrobe in which they built the store in less than one month. She’s currently looking to complete her Nurse Practitioner Program and further diversify her career.
