Danny Brown took to Instagram a few days ago to let fans know that, not only is his upcoming album nearly finished, but that Top Dawg Entertainment in-house engineer, Derek “Mixed By” Ali, would be the one putting those final touches on what Brown is calling his next “masterpiece” (see above).

In January, Brown expressed his hopes of the project seeing light soon when he tweeted that was “praying” that it would be released in 2016. With Brown’s prayers seemingly answered, fans can now begin to prepare themselves for new material, or as Brown puts it “Stanny Crown season is approaching.” It’s unsure what kind of sound Brown will be going for on this upcoming project however its safe to assume he’ll take it in a direction most wouldn’t expect.

The announcement of Ali’s impending influence on Brown’s upcoming album is something that should have fans very excited. Ali has been behind the boards for some of TDE’s most prolific projects including, Schoolboy Q’s Habits & Contradictions, Kendrick Lamar’s Section 80, good kid, m.A.A.d city, and most recently, To Pimp A Butterfly. Ali has also been tapped for high profile projects outside the label, most notably YG’s My Krazy Life. 

It’s now been three years since the release of Brown’s previous album, Old, which saw moderate success among the hip-hop community. With a strong core following, Brown looks to build upon that success and possibly reach new heights in his career. While fans eagerly await an album title and release date for his upcoming album, check out Brown’s latest verse on the Avalanches “Frankie Sinatra” which you can check out below.

Derek Ali aka MixedByAli or simply known as Ali for those familiar with the TDE camp, spoke to top mixing engineer Dave Pensado to talk all things audio in his weekly show, Pensado’s Place. The show typically includes interviews with top music industry artists, engineers, producers, mixers and record executives and also includes in-depth tutorials in engineering and mixing.

Of course the discussion delved deep into Kendrick Lamar’s debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d. city and the specifics of its engineering, but because the conversation is between audio junkies, the conversation has dozens of audio terms that may be unfamiliar. Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful thing to see Ali discussing his craft which helped give way to everyone’s favorite artist.
