New Music: Misha B – “Do for Love”

Misha B is an British singer-songwriter and rapper whose impressive pipes and fierce style have earned her a reputation as a musical force to be reckoned with. Her latest track, “Do for Love,” a cover of Tupac’s 1998 hit from his posthumous album, R U Still Down? doesn’t stray too far from the original. Beginning with a clearing of her throat, the track proceeds with a piercing simplicity. Her approach is engaging in its imperfectness, which makes you feel simultaneously at ease under the bareness of MacReal‘s production handiwork. She took on the track for all it was worth, breathing harmony into the song with a refreshingly unadorned approach that’s transcended by her relentless passion and drive for self-expression. Watch Misha B Cover Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools (Drank)”

Misha B is hard at work on her upcoming EP, ROOM303, but although she’s been relatively quiet about what to expect, she’s broken her silence with the release of her cover of Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools (Drank).” About the project, she says, “I’ve chosen the song “Swimming Pools” by my favourite lyricist of today, Mr. Kendrick Lamar. This is me vybzing with some of the BoomSquad in the comfort of my own home. Totally raw, fun and imperfect.” The thought may sound a little nerve-racking on paper but, rest assured, her powerhouse vocals and self-assured attitude provide a pleasing contrast with the backing from her guitarist and beat boxer. New Music: Misha B – “MishStyle”

A former X Factor UK finalist already making a name for herself across the pond, Misha B makes her grand entrance with “MishStyle.” For those who haven’t followed her career over the last 18 months, the emcee takes the opportunity to lyrically correct those who doubted her success:

“I went from busking to a handful of people, now I’ve got my hands full of people, way back when it was me and my pen, not a penny to spend, I was broke. All I had was my dream and hope, eating 50p noodles in packs, now I’m out here living, making noodles from scratch.”

K.Lawton takes an ebullient and vibrant approach on the production tip, pairing the singer-songwriter’s fiery style with energetic sung vocals with a dash of Nicki Minaj on the side. While she has previously been on the pop side of the musical spectrum with previous releases, Misha revisits her rap roots, conquering expectations, and proudly showcasing her versatility. “MishStyle” is tentatively not be included on her upcoming debut album, but we have a feeling that it might well make the final cut.
