New Music: Mike G – “Nesta” (prod. Hurtboy AG and Ralphs One)

Mike G isn’t as prolific as some of the other members of Odd Future , but he absolutely shares their versatility. Again linking up with Hurtboy AG and Ralphs One, Mike G brings us “Nesta,” a mellow, stunted track that slowly sprawls out like arms during the first yawn of the day. Mike G has a certain “respect” when it comes to approaching a track and it shows here. Rather than suffocating an instrumental, he gives it space, allowing it to feel comfortable in its own skin before he seduces it with his smooth rhymes. This respect not only allows the instrumental (and the producers who made it) to get some recognition, but it allows Mike G to really pace his uniquely slow flow, casually releasing it like a slow exhale from a relaxing blunt. Mike G isn’t the most prolific member of Odd Future, but if you’ve heard a fair share of his verses, you know that he’s a respectable rapper regardless of his output. “1 PM” features the smooth-voiced emcee lyrically condensating over an instrumental that could be from a Gran Turismo game. Produced by Syd tha Kyd, “1 PM” is a rare treat: positive words, pleasant sound and engaging delivery. Savor it.

Mixtape Premiere: Lucille Ghatti – High Grade

R&B has been on a kick lately, and California native Lucille Ghatti is here to continue that streak. Her mixtape Amori Infiniti dropped earlier this year, setting the tone for her signature mix of warm soul and crispy beats. She sits somewhere in between Kelis in her Neptunes days and Frank Ocean today — but don’t take it from me. “In her Beats, you get that feeling you did when you loved R&B years ago you know?” asks her press release. “When you bumped SWV in your car and it was the cool thing.” Pretty accurate.

RESPECT. is proud to present Lucille’s newest mixtape, High Grade. The title comes from Ms. Ghatti’s progression as a singer and artist, and also from her love of the greenery. On Twitter, she goes by @LoudPackLucy, and her music is perfect to blaze to. High Grade includes features from Mike G from Odd Future and Tay Walker, an affiliate of the Internet.
