If you’re in New York City, SNY Network is the go to network for all sports news. One of the reasons for the network’s popularity is hit personality and anchor Michelle Yu.

She’s smart, she’s knowledgeable, she’s funny and she’s centered.

For all of you youngsters looking to climb the ranks, Yu dropped some major keys of her climb up. Her transition is cool because she started in print and is on air talent.

A Bronx, NY native, Yu scribed her way through The Journal News and Sports Illustrated For Kids magazine.

On a recent episode of Scoop B Radio, Michelle Yu dropped knowledge on how to grind in the sports news game particularly when her parents didn’t understand that she had a plan at first. “It  was extremely difficult,” Michelle Yu told me on Scoop B Radio.

“I mean my parents and I were kinda at odds you know a little bit in my early 20s, because they thought I was the rebel of the family. You know I’m an only child, but they of course have relatives that were lawyers and working in finance and doing their thing and here I was watching “Days of Our Lives” in the morning and then going to cover field hockey games in the afternoon.

She added:

My mom comes home from work and she’s like ‘What are you doing with your life?’ I said: ‘Don’t you worry mom I have a plan.’  And she’s like: ‘Well what’s your plan? You plan to live here for the rest of your life at my house and having grandma cook for you?’

If you’re reading this, you’re probably thinking: Not a bad idea! Yu didn’t think so either. But she stayed the course.

According to Yu, her goal was simple: if she didn’t have a decent on-air job, she’d quit her broadcasting dream and produce or write. After bouncing between New York 1 and then at College Sports Television she found her way to SNY in 2009. She covers everything from tennis, hoops, baseball and where Carmelo Anthony will land by the beginning of the 2017-18 NBA season.

Also, for those tardy to the party, Yu is also an accomplished writer. She co-authored her first novel, China Dolls, in 2007, and her second novel, Young, Restless and Broke, was published in 2009.
