Amal absorbed a lot of his vision as a youngster from his surroundings. Abdel Khaliq gradually learned to play several instruments, including drums, which was taught to him by his father. After a short period of enrollment at his early age, Abdel Khaliq established The Ministry of Events a collective and label.

Harlem MC/producer Crystal Caines drops off a care package in the form of five new tracks. (via COMPLEX) For anyone who thought it may be difficult for Ms. Caines to follow up her breakout single “Whiteline” (w/ A$AP Ferg) think again. Sure, this isn’t an album or even an EP for that matter, but the production value and audible diversity within these releases is artistically validating to say the least. If her upcoming “Vertigo” EP sounds anything like these records, it’s going to be difficult for other artists to keep up.

Yes, this is a song with two of hip-hop’s most interesting lyricists, but the instrumental is absolutely the highlight of the track. Produced by Nottz, the instrumental uses a dull bass line and a guitar yelp as the main rhythm. Kendrick and Pusha fall right into its snares (no pun intended because there are no snares on this track), spitting fierce lines that are actively guided by the instrumental’s directions.

This is the secret appeal of G.O.O.D. Music songs. Since “Mercy,” instrumentals from that camp have increasingly been just as charismatic as the artists they feature. This is a good trend because it reminds us as listeners that rap is more than raps. Never forget. Listen below.

By the way, here is the tracklist for My Name is My Name.

Nicki Minaj’s Republican line from Dedication 4‘s “Mercy” verse has gotten way more press than necessary. In fact, it got so much press that the president himselt had to weigh in. During his interview with Power 95.3′s Obie and Lil Shawn Morning Show, he said

“I think she had a song on there, a little rap that said that, but she likes to play different characters, so I don’t know what’s going on there.”

Nicki responded promptly:
